Tweaking 6000 with 1.73 PM?

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this has been asked before, but how can you overclock Pentium M? Is it safe? Also, how much more performance can you usually get from overclocking? I'm the kind of the guys who likes to tweak with the system, so please also tell me about some useful tweaks for the system that you guys like. Thanks!!

Regards,
Patrick

Can you be more specific? Thanks.

All the info you will ever need about pin modding.

Though, is there a way to overclock the original CPU without taking apart the laptop? I'm just shocked by the idea of taking apart my dear laptop.

no, youd need a hacked bios

Nope, you can't overclock the Pentium M. The only way to get the chips to go faster is through the above mentioned pin mod, which changes the multiplier speed of a Dothan (and Banias?) CPU from 100Mhz to 133Mhz, which means each CPU speed step is worth more.

ie. 16 x 100Mhz = 1600Mhz, 16 x 133Mhz = 2.13Ghz.

To continue MitchellOs post:
And that will not work with your cpu as your 1.73 GHz already is a 533 FSB CPU, but you would need a 400 FSB to do the pinmod trick.

^^ Oops sorry yes, forgot to mention that. You will have to buy a Dothan CPU to do the mod. I have mostly read about people using 1.5Ghz and 1.6Ghz Dothans, but I did read about somebody using a 1.8Ghz 1.8Ghz Dothan = 2.39Ghz

And some people (like me) use 1.7 @ 2.26 without problems

1.7 at 2.26 is the way to go.

Let's say it's nice to have that power, but tbh, I hate noise and when putting continous heavy load @2.26 at the cpu after 5-10 minutes the fan concstantly runs at full speed, which leads to lowering the max multiplyer manually if I am sitting in front of the laptop - a shame nhc only let's you set max multi in such a large step, 14 or 17, no 15 or 16 selectable ;(

you have to have a banias Pm with a sonoma chipset no?

lets give people the right advice?

Correct
No, banias are 1MB cache pms with 400 fsb, but there are also dothans with 2 mb cache and 400 fsb.
And as both cost almost the same you surely want the dothan 400 fsb and not the banias.
