HP DV1311SE Hanging up, help please...

Thread Starter
I bought a DV1311SE for son for christmas. When I switch from adapter power to battery power the laptop freezes up. It will boot on battery power and even load xp, but soon after it freezes. It however doesnt freeze up on battery or adapter power in safemode. On adapter power it runs great. I have the latest bios, I have reinstalled xp 3 times, updated everything i can find to update ect ect, can someone please give me something to try... I am desperate.

You could try one of these:
1. Boot XP on power adapter > Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Select Never for all the battery options, see if this works.
2. If you have any power related options in the BIOS, try messing with them, just remember the initial settings. Some combinations will probably result in blue screens, but you might also find a combination that works.
3. If P4 with hyperthreading, disable hyperthreading from BIOS.

Hmmm. If you bought it from a retail store like Best Buy. Take it back, right away. You should be able to get it swapped out immediately. It is not worth your time or effort to mess with if it is < 1 year old. It is obviously doing something abnormal.

If you purchased if from a non-retail location you may be out of luck.
