why 2 network connections? anyone know?

does anyone know why, the 5680 has 2 network connections? i have a cable modem set up, and when i go to network connection in the control panel, it lists 2 seperate connections, one called "1394 connection" , with "1394 net adapter" under it. and also my "local area connection", with "realtek rtrlblahblah/8110 family" under it. what i dont understand is they are both conencted, always and at the same time. they both stay connected all the time and if you click on them they have the same amount of minutes/hours connected. what is this all about? also, i just enabled the firewall on the local area connection. do i have to also go through and enable the firewall on the 1394 connection also? (windows xp pro firewall). thanks for any answers

1394 is your fire wire port

sorry for sounding stupid, but what the hell is fire wire?

It is the port to the left of your modem and LAN connections...used to connect your computer to, most commonly, a digital video camera or external device like an external hard drive...
