4760 Power Supply Fans running

Thread Starter
I have had my 4760 for almost 5 months and it is working fine. However, I have noticed that the power supply (transformer) fans are running almost constantly.

Most of the forum postings reference laptop fans, rather than the power supply fans. Any one else observing this in their system?

I have a 4760, and it's power supply fans often are on, particularly when the cpu is heavily loaded.

You might want to make sure your power supply isn't on carpet (which will tend to trap heat in it).. place it on a hard surface. Also, don't block the fan openings!

maybe its full of dust, check it and maybe open it

I've never thought of opening up anything with 'power' in the name as a good idea if you don't know what you're doing I don't have a 4760, so my power brick has no fans, but I'd say clean it with some compressed air, make sure the fan isn't facing the ground... I don't even know what a power supply brick with a fan looks like, so I can't be much help, sorry

To be clear, you are hearing sounds similar to a PC fan coming from the powerbrick?

Are you certain that the fan sound is not coming from the laptop.

I just took a look at the powerbrick of my 4760 and I saw no vents on the powerbrick and could only hear the sounds of the brick getting electricity.

Power Supply Load

I have the same adapter and it runs when the laptop is under a load... especially during the summer months whens its hot out to begin with. What I do is take two little blocks of wood about an inch high and place it on them. It seems to help a little.

You're right though. That bugger of a fan is loud.
