Glad I could help. I do hope it works or at least gives you a cheap spare in case you need to start splicing .. Good luck.

LOL... at this point it looks like there may be some splicing in the future! =)

Let us know the results. One of their tech guys is really cool (his name is Jack).

As for the connector swap, I don't know--I didn't see the panel in question.

EDIT: Okay, found that someone--it was Waynet himself who was guessing that the working panel was a single backlight model...
yup, it was a guess

the sony (sharp) uxga fit the 9300 like a glove except for the difference in backlites

hard to imagine there would be differences in vesa configurations among computer manufacturers - then again....

I ended up getting the Fuji N6220, a remarkable 1440 LCD and unremarkable X600 256MB gpu; if you have a Fry's in your hood, check this LCD out

Bump - any news yet, Zinje?
I have been pretty busy because I run an online business. Now that everything has settled down I will be giving them a call tomorrow.

Well just got back..... and seems i have the same problem as jenny. That ribbon cable that connects in the back of the lcd don't fit because of those clips. They will be ordering a spare and remove the clips rather than messin with mine incase something went wrong. I will have to wait till they call. Man I was so excited too..... this sucks!

Zinje... make sure they pull the tech sheets for the exact model of screen you have and the exact model (this includes items like (TL) (01) and so on) they are trying to put in your machine. The polarities of each wire on the pin-out can be different and you have to use compatible screens. They say VESA, but VESA leaves ALOT of room for "propriatary methods" in laptop screens.

I spoke with EarthLCD and they were very helpful in confirming everything I had theorized was the problem with Jenny's setup. I even talked to the guys over at that place you went to when Jenny was attempting it. Just trying to avoid the "clip factor" will be a 50/50 shot in the dark because there are about 50 different JAE connector types that are allowed also. So you're going to have fun.

If your LCD says (TL) in the first bracket then you need another (TL) style screen from what I've determined. Also, the second bracket refers to the backlight style and number of bulbs. If there isn't a revision (like on the older Dell WUXGA screens) you would be able to swap any generic model out directly.

The Qosmio G25 appears to be the only capable screen with the 9300S in terms of lower-than-WUXGA resolution screens. The Qosmio G25 uses LP171WP5 (TL) (A2). The guy at the shop you went to said he would try to get them in for us but never returned my call. Those screens have a similar interface style that will allow a simple "hybrid cable" to be made from one bottom half Dell cable and one top half Toshiba cable. The bulb style is a slab instead of a wedge (which is what gives more even backlighting), and there are 2 bulbs instead of 1.

It's about a 450$ screen at any suppliers cost... but after selling yours for 250-300$ on ebay it will be well worth it.

Hi JaxChris,

So in order for this LP171WP5 lcd to work I would need a hybrid cable? I wish I could understand what you are talking about but I am ignorant in regards to hardware stuff. What does this hybrid cable look like?

Also.... do you have a link to where the LCD could be found?

Thanks for you input.

What I mean by "hybrid cable" is that you'd have to splice together the bottom half of a Dell cable for the 9300 with the top half of the cable for a Qosmio G25 from Toshiba.

The Toshiba cable costs about 60$ from Toshiba Parts. The Dell cable can be found for about 15$ on eBay. So that's 75$ on top of the cost of the display.

The guy there, Jenny remembers his name better than I do, tried to tell Jenny "yea just splice your cable together and it'll fix it". But that's not entirely true because of the changes in pinout and the specific power draw of the difference models. VESA = not really "standard" when it comes to the internals of LCD's.

The guy's name was Jack!

Jax, I'd try to find the product number for the Toshiba cable and eBay it. I got my extra Dell cable (DAQ20 17", P/N DC025073100) for about 4 bucks shipped on eBay (I swapped mine out after I hacked up my original one badly during the LCD experiment). So I have an extra cable for when you want to start the experiment.. just find me on AIM.

Yep... I'll come hunt you down when I'm ready! Just need to find someone with the G25 screen available for sale.

I called 3 places that had it listed as "Please Call" and they tried to talk me into what they "promised" was a "compatible" screen. Told them no thanks.

What you doing up this late anyhow?!?!? LoL

Holy shiz, I didn't realize it was 3am. I cannot answer your question because I have no idea why I'm up!

G'nite girlie.
