thats what I'd really like to know because Dell still is probably best bang for the buck esp with all the coupons they always seem to have out there.

here is the deal, Intel paid off Dell some big money to exclusively intel, that is, no amd dells....ever!

not to question you as you are a very longtime poster and Im just a newbie but how do you know this 100% for sure (the big payoff you speak of). There have been some rumblings that it might actually happen (AMD /Dell systems) this year!!! I would hope so as Im sure they would make a fine 17" notebook, modular bays, good price etc.

It is true intel gives dell kickbacks for not using amd processors, but it is also true michael dell said he would consider using amd processors in the future. Dell is looking out for its own best interests, and if that happens to include using amd processors it will use them.

well not to long ago i heard amd filed a lawsuite against intel under the charges of anti-competitive practices, and currently dell is selling amd processors (not in computers, but seperately). So i believe that their is a good chance it'll happen.

Unless the lawsuit specifically says dell has to use some amd chips, they wont. Dell sells, resale AMD CPUS OEM but it really doesnt mean anything. There has been lots of speculation as to what dell will do, but as i've read (alot) recently, nothign official. I personally doubt they'll do it. If anybody says they know for sure that they will, they're lieing. I doubt Michael dell knows.

I voted for it will happen but it will be next year or later. I know intel is buddy buddy with dell and dell will stick with them for the near future but if intel doesnt get its act together and allows amd to get even more ahead of them, dell will get there act toegther and buy the best product for their systems which, if thats is amd, then you will see amd in dells. No matter how much intel pays dell, if the market wants amd, it will get amd. In the tech world, never say never

darekmac..... well, it all depends. i think the intel marketing team will do what it takes to convince the general public that the PM will perform better than Turion and that P4 w/HT is *still* better than athlons......X2s....ugh....sure.

Dell purchases Intel processors for lower prices than AMD can offer for similar products due to Intel's size.

i think dell will crap their pants and realize that at least opterons are faaaaarrr superior to itaniums or zeons. so maybe at least in the business segment.

when heck freezes over and the pentiums are being used for heat. maybe then

so the majority say no way. So if dell won't come out with one....who is the best bang for the buck?

Dell will most likely not have an AMD notebook now in the near future. And if they come out with any AMD Desktops I beleive Dell has said that they'd be limited to a low-cost value line as the Sempron outperforms Celeron chips BY FAR for about the same price.

I doubt Intel pays Dell any money as that would just be self-defeating. It probably goes more like Intel just undercuts their prices alot more than AMD can ever do. This keeps Dell's costs down.
