So I took my laptop in today to the shop and got an assessment....what would you do?

I went to a licensed toshiba shop and the tech there took a good look at it, even popped the keyboard off and checked it out under neath etc. Now the thing is, after about 25mins of inspecting it, he said that something sounds loose inside - hence what would cause the rattling sound when you are typing, from the keyboard coming in contact with the back chasis. Hard to tell what it is, without taking it apart.

But he said, I could either pay him to rip it apart and put it back together, in hoping maybe something was loose and just needed a simple tightening or else two, he can order the parts then take it apart and replace the parts with the ones he ordered. After looking it up, the parts he said it would be replaced is the Upper logic and switch cover (dont know what that means) but its basically the entire top part, everything you see other than the keyboard and screen when the laptop is open. So its basically the parts all around the keyboard and it includes the plastic layer that covers the mobo and goes under the keyboard. He said it would be $85.00.

So I dont know what to do. There is no guarentee that new parts will fix it or even do anything, maybe it needs a simple tightening like he said. But then also, maybe neither will do. If i pay someone to re-assemble and it doesnt do anything, and then order parts, I would be paying for 2 times the labour. But maybe I dont even need the parts. If thats the case, then it would just be a big waste of time and money.

What do you think? What would you guys do?

hey you were the guy on here a few months ago with money problems. Did you ever get you problems sorted out? (I remember ppl flaming you on here cos of a replacement keyboard). I think unless you got your money problems sorted out I'd just live with the laptop the way it is (whatever is wrong with it). If it doesn't work then it depends on how much spare money you got and how bad you need the notebook. Good luck to you.

Money problems? ehh well Im never a rich man if thats what youre asking haha, but no right now Im working a good well paying FT job so it wouldnt be an issue if I had to fork cash out to get this fixed. But of course, the only thing is, will it even fix it? Theres no gaurentee and if it doesnt, then I would be pissed as it would be $ down the toilet, plus all the time running around back and fourth, etc.

Since I've never heard anything about your money problems or jail, I'll just have to say this:
Does ordering parts before you know what is causing the problem sound like a good idea to anyone? Sounds like an easy way to toss $$$ down the toilet. If it is still under warranty, send it in. If not, you won't void the warranty by just taking it apart yourself. All it is is screws and clips man. It seems hard but it really isn't.

^ its out of warranty. btw, it would help if i could find a site on my model, how to take it apart

I still need some advice - dont know what to do. I thought it over long and hard over the weekend. Places are jammed right now with long waits, and Im trying to find just someone on a website, who is capable of taking it apart. Its not rocket science im sure, as there is really no troubleshooting involved. I know the problem, just need it taken apart.

1) Pay someone to take it apart with the chance of might needing to replace parts anyways. I would then have to pay for 2x labour and 2x more trips.

2) Order parts now and pay someone to do it, all in one shot. But i dont know 100% if i need parts or not. One question for you, if a plastic part is a bit bent and disfigured, wouldnt that mean you need to replace the part and that should fix it?

Plastic on a laptop should never become bent or disfigured. The only way to 'bend' plastic is to hold it in an improper position for long period of time, or apply heat. That would have to mean that your laptop was tweaked or something. Once that happens, however, I would definately replace it, however (this is going with not much info so I won't be surprised if my guess is wrong) I would think that whatever caused the plastic to be disfigured is the problem, not the plastic itself.

Well, a reputable shop would determine the problem and let you decide on if you want it fixed or not. They might due that for free or charge you a diagnostic fee that would count tword the cost of the repair if you decide to fix it. At least that is how I do business.

If I were you, I would find another Toshiba authorized shop.
