WoW/Gaming on 12 inch powerbook.

This is my first apple and I'm in love. I'd tried windows notebooks and had been disappointed by both the design quality and the support so I figured I'd have to wait until notebook prices changed to where I could get what I want with the money I had.

However I stopped in my school store and saw that they had the 60 gig HD/Combo drive powerbooks on sale for 999 so, after some test driving, I purchased one and it's sitting on my desk now all pretty and functional.

After doing some reading I found that the videocard in the 12 inch powerbook (Geforce go 5200 64megs of VRAM) is considered somewhat "substandard" and I was wondering if I'd be able to run World of Warcraft on this baby with any sort of success. Does anyone here have any experience that they can share with me?

well

it is definately worth a try but i have my doubts that it would work. apples arent exactly famous for good gaming capabilities. they are generally meant for work. thats why i went with the asus z71v rather than a powerbook. gaming was a factor for me.

Ive got a buddy that has played it on his pb and he saids that it can run, but only on low settings and isnt exactly a great experience. Apple does focus on work rather than gaming which seems to work with them but it gives us asus people something to say whey we didnt buy a pb.

My school bought 20 of the last revision powerbooks from apple (difference being a 60 gig HD instead of the 80 and the combo drive instead of the superdrive). So, they were able to offer an "end of semester deal" of 999 on these until they ran out.

I have a friend that ran WoW On the G4 iBook which has a 32mb ATI 9200 and it ran fine on the defualt settings. Also I have ran this game on my 32MB S3 Twister K in my HP its laggy but playable so the 64MB 5200 should be over kill for WoW.

And the screen was upgraded too, right?

Anyways, while I wouldn't say the 5200 is overkill for WoW (It's in the same class of performance as the 9200, I believe), I would expect that it can run it. Isn't WoW supposed to be pretty scaleable depending on what hardware you have?

In the twelve inch models the screen was brightened. I don't consider that too much of an upgrade.
