I dont own an AW but here is the deal for me. I am NOT brand loyal and I build all my own desktops and I built my gf's sister an Asus z71V laptop.

I looked into gaming laptops for about 6 months. I looked at AW, Dell, Sager etc etc.... I finally decided on the Inspiron 9300 because I played there system and got one for $1100 with 3 year complete in home warranty and service. I then got 2 gigs of ram for it for $120 and a 7800GTX GO for $260. Next I will get a 1.7 Pentium M for about $100 on ebay and pin mod it to 2.26 and have an extreamly cool running gaming laptop for about $1400 to 1,500. That kind of deal is impossible to beat. I wouldnt hesitate to buy an AW though if I had decided to go that route. My 1.73 Pentium M idles at 28 and full loads at 38 and the Pentium M pulverizes P4's at gaming and is right on par with A64's.

Your pentium m is not on part with an FX55 or FX 57.

Do you think your rig will smoke my lappy on order (Hypersonic Fx7 with AMD X2 4800 and 7800 GTX go)?

Congrats to u on ur skillz, just as long as you know ur place I own an ALX that I am about to refit and have built rigs as well (do a search to behold skills young lad). I own 5 Alienwares yet I can still build a top-notch rig. Am I incrediblly smart and talented? Fook no. I just have a good sugar momma supporting my bad habit . . .when you get one come back and we will talk

The FX55 and 57 cost how much in comparison to a lowely Pentium M? The pentium M's OC like mad in desktop environments and will stay right on par with an FX cpu. Also an FX isnt going to run as cool and give nearly as good of battery life as a PM will.

My next venture will be to slap a Opteron 148 in my desktop rig and hit 3Ghz on air which they do pretty easily. I have personaly seen 2 of them prime stable at 3.2 and 3.3 in which case thay absolutely murder the $1000 FX 57 all for a nice cool price of around $250.

And my gf {soon to be fiance} makes her share of money. Last year she pulled in $150,000 which absolutely pulverizes what I make But hey I am a man and can take it!!!!!

Also I have to admit, I am a die hard AMD man myself but the PM is an awsome laptop cpu for sure with amazing potential in desktop rigs. They have an even higher IPC than A64's do which makes them faster clock for clock and the 2MB L2 is another factor that makes them even that much faster and better for gaming. Like I said I would buy an AW in a heartbeat because they are very good rigs. I just went the cheaper route this time because I wanted to do some upgrades myself and save a buck or 2 thousand.

I don't know where you get your p4's, but if your m is pulverizing a p4 at gaming, either your m is magic, or your p4 is garbage.

Or are you comparing a 2.0m to a 2.0 p4?

AMD FX cpus trounce anything Intel has to offer in gaming which is what counts. I heard good things about Pentium M as well but for desktop replacement AMD is way to go. For real mobile, Pentium M is cool but I need to read up on new AMD mobile procs.

What does your GF do? Does she have big (oYo) (sorry, I am DB, I had to ask) ?

My wife is also my boss at work. Beat that She pays me 90k/year so I can't complain (and I can buy lots of clinic computer hardware).

A note for you: real men use liquid-cooling in their desktops

Hey everyone:

I've had my 9860 (m7700) for just over a year now, and concidering the abuse its recived I've only had one problem (motherboard needed replacing) which was probably my fault. The notebook came out of standby while inside my laptop bag and was running with no air flow until the battery was almost dead . However since then not a single problem... Best $3.5k I've ever spent...

I'm having all kinds of problems with my A51m and have been for a while, however, I did purchase the extended warranty and am about to see how Alienware handles their commitment on that end.

Would I buy another? I'm not sure. When the notebook works it's completely badassexed.
