cheaper?

Why is the AMD so much more cheaper than the p4's if its a better chip and all? I can't figure this one out....I wanna get one, but cannot decide which of the two..

Probably because Intel banks on the common consumer not knowing any better. Better known brand name + higher GHz + more expensive... wow, it MUST be better. That's the kind of situation where hiking up the price actually makes a product more attractive. That plus they have exclusivity contracts with many major resellers, so they can get away with that stuff.

AMDs dual core vs Intel's Yonah (notebook dual core)

A good review of the not yet released Intel's dual core notebook chip, Yonah and AMD’s 3800 and 4200 dual core chips. Also reviews Pentium M chip vs the Yonah chip

please do not take any of these reviews on many of these sites too seriously...

some of course are more reputable than others, but many of the are biased and literally paid off to favor a certain side

I totally agree, I take these reviews with a grain of salt....if you do your research, then you will know just what your getting and I would not spend that kind of money based upon the recommendations of someone I do not know...also there are many other factors involved in these choices unless your getting this for pure gaming and nothing else...and how many times have we seen one review totally contradict another review.....Yang knows of what he speaks!!!!

I see intel Ds not Intel Pentium 4s, WTF is up with that, seems pretty rigged to me!. Besides I dont like how AMD isnt stable with alot of Games and applications. Ive had crashes that would scare the shit out of ya with AMDs. Their good but CDNet is also not very reliable, look at the shit they say and allow others to say about alienwares like ours.

Stay Frosty,

Lex

Uhm, dude did you do any research before posting? Intel Pentium D's are the dual core version of Pentium 4's. They use two 90nm Prescott 1-MB cores as opposed to the single 90nm Prescott 1 or 2-MB core known as... Pentium 4. If you want to get mad that they don't have 2x2MB versions and don't communicate directly but rather across the processor bus using an arbiter chip, then you need to blame Intel, not CDNet. But you got a point about CDNet. I'm not a big fan of any website that lets people say what they want without censorship. F*ck the 1st Amendment. Yeah, CDNet sucks for that.

P.S. As for the instability claim, from my own experience I've had much more stability with AMD, but that's just me.

Lex here is my harem:
one AW Aurora ALX SLI with AMD FX 55
one DIY Rig with AMD X2 4400
one DIY rig with Intel p4 3.06 ghz
Three AW Area 51 5550 with Intel 3.4 P4
One AW laptop with Intel 3.0 P4

I have NEVER had ANY compatiblity problems with AMD rigs. Hell, my previous Kitty DIY rig had an AMD Thunderbird 1 ghz in it and it worked without any hiccups. The AMDs are every bit as reliable as Intels. And they will out perform them as well. Before the dual core chips were out I opted for P4s for Hyperthreading ability in production environments. This is no longer the case as AMD has trumpted Intel in the area of multi-threaded capability. I understand the server CPUs give Intel a run for the money as well.

Me thinks you are mistaken and you have a Cyrix CPU instead running OS2.

I've used AMD procs for my desktop rigs since the Athlon XP. I've never had any stability problems. I don't overclock and run name brand memory on top end motherboards with the best passive cooling I can get my hands on.

My current desktop is an amd64 4000+ sli 6800gt etc, and has been on 24/7 since I assembled it last december. I use it as a music/print fileserver and play games on it heavily. It doesn't lock up or crash ever. It is rebooted only when drivers or software require it.

both are as stable as each other if the components are not broken and the pc itself is built well with good ventilation and such.

Neither chip is any more stable than the other, but atm amd pwn intel cpus all across the board except for lappys, but i fear intel gonna lose out there aswell soon.

yes I agree amd will alwyas be better for desktops but for ntoebooks that a different story. there about the same pentium m offering more battery life.

How would you know about the processor in a notebook? All you care about is how noisy it is.
