~Yet Another 4780~

Thread Starter
Ok, got mine like about a week or so ago. I've been playing with it and all trying to tweak XP and such.
It's EVERYTHING that people have been saying here.

Mine is a 3.0 with 1 gig of ram, 60 gig 7200rpm HD, and internal wireless. Seems like a popular configuration.
Following tradition, i'll start of with pics, especially the BOX

DISLIKES:

1. The screen doesn't seem very bright to me on highest setting even after I increased my gamma a little and my brightness. I'm going to compare it to my friends Sony laptop when i get a chance. Hers as I remember was way brighter then my older Toshiba. And my older Toshiba next to 4780 seems to be of equal brightness.

2. I can't get the USB2.0 to work as USB2.0 under WinXP Pro. Everytime i attach my external USB2.0, it says that it's connected to a non high speed port or something like that.

3. The area above the PCMCIA slot bends down a little bit when i rest my wrist there. Not much, but still

4. Compared to my Sony 21" monitor, it has sharper images but the colors are more accurate on my Sony. It's a CRT vs LCD thing of course

5. I really don't like the mouse pad buttons, I'm so used to my Toshiba mouse nipple and the buttons where the left button is on top, the right button is underneath it. That was nice 'cause i could navigate without ever lifting my wrist. Doesn't matter though since i'll be gettin gan MX700. Anyone try to fit it in this laptop? I know some have in other models.

LIKES:

1. The built in camera is way better then my Logitech Webcam. It's much brighter. I heard many problems about it being dark but mine works great. Catch me on yahoo messenger at don_davi or MSN messenger at don_davi hotmail if you want to see how it looks.

2. The audio is good. What's your equalizer setting? I have mine on 'Powerful'

3. Snappy machine ya'll. Very stable so far. Crashed once when i was tweaking XP but that was my fault. Boots up pretty fast. Shuts down even faster.

4. LOVE the built in media card reader. its soooo convenient. One less USB cable to carry around for my Digital Camera.

Anyhow, I'm sleepy and at work. The 8790 better not launch on time! Laters.

I would make sure you have the service pack and patches installed for the usb problem - sometimes you have to install them - then uninistall the drievrs for the USB then reinstall the drivers.

Also that message occurs sometimes when you hook a 1.1 USB device up to to a 2.o port.

Yeh I've definately noticed the bend above the PCMCIA slot. makes a little 'errr-eee' noise if u bounce on it, lol. i only noticed it after about a month on mine, hope it wasnt a resulting of heat warping it.
