Sound replacement for the 5720

Well, I finally could not stand the hiss of the 5720's headphone jack so I tried a suggestion of another NBF'er.

The Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro USB audio adapter wont win any awards for amazing sound but it is certainly acceptable. CLEAR, CLEAR sound. Simple to use, it makes me smile. I ran it with some Altec Lansing fair to middlin headphones and the sound was quite nice. The little widget costs $30.00. When the bass kicked in my ears were vibrating and the highs were still clear. I would be interested to see if anyone tries this with some really good headphones.

I know, I know, 2k+ for a laptop and buying add on cards anyway. But between the wireless mouse, the PCMCIA wireless card and now the USB sound card I am quickly running out of ports!!

One last note I listened to some Johnny Cash and now some Eminem to get a quick taste of what it can do and the Eminem is shaking my head the best I have heard out of this machine so far.

I recommend the card as a cheap satisfactory sound replacement. The USB extension cord is a nice little add-on for the package too.

Enjoy

Why don't you buy a sound card to be mounted in the mini pci port? That is a lot more practical, plus I beleive you get better sound then.

DO you mean the pcmcia slot? I use that for wireless right now. MY Intel card is back at the "shop". I dont now if I will use it when i hget back as the external card works exponentially better. Plus this card is cheap. 30$ I can justify, when I start getting near a hundred I start thinking about the 400 gig SATA drive I need for my media center

"noise"...

Not good. It might not be expected to be great sound from the onboard solution but I would have expected better from Sager on at least making it a quiet simple solution.

oh well

No, I didn't mean pcmcia. I meant pci. I'm absolutely sure that I read about a guy who installed a sound blaster card in his 5720...

hmmm,

check out this pic

its the inside of the bottom. It may be a big assumption on my part but other than drive connections you have the 2 open ports around the Intel wireless card. One is for the bluetooth module (probably the one with the antenna cable) and the other would be for the TV tuner module.

On the clevo site it says the Bluetooth is a usb interface

but it does not specify what the tuner module is. That may be a PCI Express connection. It would be nteresting to find what options we have if it is.
