Odd one this, grateful for any help I can get (lots of cookies)...
After changing no settings or installing any new software (the last few times it was on was just to browse and game) I turned on my PC to find the boot process taking much longer than normal (would say about three times) once logged in to windows the mouse pointer freezes but continues to function, just invisible. Funny thing is that enabling trails brings back the cursor to normal but only while trails are on - so more than probably something to do with the drawing of the cursor than a hardware issue.
Things I have done (sometimes repeatedly) and in no particular order:
- Have run virus scanner - clean.
- Have run spyware scanner - clean.
- Have uninstalled all software that loads on boot.
- Have uninstalled all non necessary drivers and disabled devices.
- Have uninstalled and reinstalled mouse and touchpad (running on default drivers atm).
- Have uninstalled gfx driver, reinstalled directx and reinstalled gfx driver.
- Have repeatedly bashed head against wall.
About to run Windows File Protection again, but last time it decided to run (a long time ago) it asked for the CD and said it was the wrong one - changing the registry entry to a copy of I386 folder on disk didn't help either.
Have searched for this problem and got a few results but no answers (mostly obvious replies like 'try reinstalling mouse driver' etc).
All the rep I can give to somebody who can help solve this - really don't have the time available to reinstall...
Thanks in advance...
