for those using 8220/30/40 series, how long can your battery last?
It depends on what apps youre running and your PM settings.
BTW, my V2403NR never lived long enough to run the battery down.
A freaking POS, and BestBuy is just as good when you need a refund.

ya true in regards to PM settings..
as for my battery. it's rated at 14.4v 4800 mAh. but now it's 3471. i just got the laptop in september. should i go send/swap the battery for new? is it possible to do so?

Deep cycle the battery 2 or 3 times and see if that helps. LithiumIon batteries are not supposed to have a memory but I deep cycled the 4 year old battery in my ThinkPad 3 times and now get 12 more minutes run time before the critical battery level alarm kicks in. At least this 4 year old IBM still works unlike that paperweight/doorstop/Presario.

how do you exactly deep cycle?

if deep cycle means use till 0% yes, as always.. my external battery 4000 mAh, i dont really have a option but, i always end up using it till 0%. that is the way it works.. it uses the external first. then it use the internal battery.

even for my external battery i have left 3300/4000.

AND if using till 0% = deep cycle. i do that almost 4 times a week.

I wouldnt discharge any storage battery that far so often without expecting some degradation. Go figure.

ok here is the irony..
internal 4800 currently 3471
external 4000 currently 3325

the HP designed it in such a way that external battery gets used first then when it's 0% the internal takes over.

the external always gets used to 0% but internal gets used to around 20% left.

oddly the internal has more damage than the external. in terms of %

An individual battery cell can only be charged/discharged a finite amount of times. It sounds like the circuitry on your primary battery isn't using a very good algorithm to spread the charge cycles across all of its cells, and a couple of them have already been used up.

pureflows idea of remaining battery charge percentage is REMAINING USABLE CHARGE LEVEL.

You need to turn off any PM timers/battery level limiters before you can deep cycle the battery. Run the battery down until it's dead and then you can call it a deep cycle discharge. I've read that doing this once every 3 months is good enough reset the battery's charge monitoring module that is inside the battery. This will help optimize the charging rate for all battery cells.

Li-Ion batteries are only good for 300 to 500 charge cycles, and if you always use an A/C adapter, leaving the battery out actually increases battery life.

ok.. this is how i work with my laptop.

I do photoshoots outdoor. and i do it almost daily.
I set the PM where even at 1% it doesnt do anything.
my shoots are usually around 8-10 hours.
once my shoot is done, I just come back and recharge both batteries.
i usually use it till both batteries are 0% about 2-3 times a week.
so in terms of deep cycling, i do that 2-3 times a week. the catch point is i dont do it intentionally, but rather unintentionally as i need all the juice i can find. the other times, the internal battery just uses to about 20%+ but the external, i use it till 0% ALL the time.

I have a 8110 and the battery here last less than an hour when playing a DVD or watching a movie from the HD.

my nx9500 won't last long enough to play a dvd movie, even with the dimness turned down and battery optimization in mind. Other times it still lasts roughly 2hrs or less (usually less). However this model is not designed for mobility so much.

Running a movie with a USB GPS device attached, my X1370us lasted about 3.5 hours on a trip to the Northeast this spring. I watched all of the movie Robots with the kids and a documentary on the Davinci Code. And it had about 30 min. left when I shut it down.
