Freezing at various stages of booting.

Well, I tried turning on my 8790 this morning and startup was going fine until I clicked my account name to log in on Windows; the screen turned black and froze. The fan also started to go crazy. I held the power button and manually turned the unit off and waited 10 seconds before I turned it back on. I've repeated this process numerous times and I get stuck at various stages of the booting process. I'll get stuck at "detecting" sometimes and other times I'll get up to the Windows booting screen. Right now, I'm at the point where it says "IDE BUS Master Enabled." It didn't really "freeze" because the underscore is still blinking. On a side note: this is really frustrating because it's winter vacation for me so I have no work...all I want to do is play!!!

Anyway, if anyone has experience with this problem please reply! Thanks, in advance, guys.

Well, I've tried turning it on a bunch more times. Now, I get a short flicker of a blue screen of death before it turns black. Would this be a HD or OS problem? I really hope it's just dust .

Do you have a spare HD that you can throw in there and use it as a test boot drive?

Unfortunately, I don't have one. I'm going to call Sager tomorrow and I will probably have to RMA it .

Run MEMTEST.

My symptoms were identical and MEMTEST said a memory stick was bad.

Isn't MEMTEST a Windows application? Right now, it won't even boot up Windows. .

MEMTEST is a DOS utility and normally is run from it's own boot floppy/CD.

Try booting Windows in Safe Mode and see if you can get in.

Yeah, I tried the safe mode thing and it didn't work either. Last night, I tried it for one last time and it seemed promising. I got up to the Windows memory and hard disk check, until it died. Permanently. Now it won't even turn on. So, needless to say, I'm sending it back for repairs.
