XP Pro and File Sharing

Ok, I'm having some quirkyness with Windows File sharing on my AW.

No idea why, normally this doesn't give me issues.

No matter how I define a share, I cannot access it from any remote machine in my house. For some reason, everytime I try and connect, it forces the use of the Guest account (regardless if its enabled or not).

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

Any thoughts?

Make sure all puters are in the same workgroup.

Go into your network configuration and make sure that "File Printing and Sharing" is enabled.

Right click on a folder to share and select "Sharing and Security".

Then when you try to map drive enter in \\computername\sharedfoldername

Hope this helps there K-Mart

That's the wierd part. Everything is in workgroup 'WORKGROUP' and I can browse my thinkpad from my AW but not my AW from my thinkpad.

I've tried with simple file sharing and without. I've given everyone full permissions to the directory (non-simple file sharing) under the security tab and the share. No joy.

VERY strange.

Tried with Norton on and off. Same thing. No permissions to access file. Searched M$ KB .. no joy.

My mind is mush.

Keep those ideas coming!!!

Got the inlaws out of the house and was able to figure out what was going on.

I removed File/Printer sharing from my network connection, rebooted and readded it.

All is working now.

Gotta love them winders.

*sigh*
