Perhaps it would be an annoyance, but I wonder if it would accept revision E processors with that bios installed. Maybe it would be less work to get the battery meeter to work rather than mod an older bios.

bad news!

Hey everyone! Sorry for the long time since I last posted, but I found some interesting things.

First, modding the m6805 BIOS seems impossible now since there are parts of the BIOS code that are compressed, and only uncompress when the BIOS actually runs. Without the full Phoenix BIOS editor program, I can't make changes to the compressed code.

Second, using the Gateway 7422GX BIOS in an eMachines doesn't work well as I said before and as others are discovering. Modding this Gateway BIOS to work with the eMachines seems impossible for the same reason as modding the eMachines BIOS.

Third, researching more about the Turion, there's really no benefit for putting it into an eMachines, since the chipset will still draw the same amount of power (the battery time will not increase). Although it would allow us to upgrade to a slightly faster CPU, it's probably not worth to buy a Turion when you can buy a laptop with one already in it.

Because of all this, I picked up two Gateway 7510GX laptops, new but open box with damaged screens, fixed their screens, and sold my two m6805 laptops and Turion chip. It was too good of a deal, as the result was upgrading for free.

So I'm sorry to say, my m6805 BIOS modding days are over. But if someone wants to continue, send me a message and I can send you what technical info I found, although it won't do much good unless you have the Phoenix BIOS editor.

Sorry to hear the Turion's won't work out. Thanks so much for all your research though!

I'd like to get the info you've gathered. I may be able to get ahold of the Phoenix bios editor. If anything else, I'd like to fix the Machine Check errors if nothing else. If you don't mind emailing it to me...

It might interest you to know that the portions in a phoenix bios can be exchanged. Check out this thread: http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2294 And I seem to remember reading somewhere that the compressed portions are compressed using LZH.... but that may be award bioses, I can't remember.

I'll gather the info and put a link for you to download it.

Here is something strange! I took out the 3700+ mobile (non-Turion) and put in a 4000+ mobile in a 7510GX and it acts the same as when I put a Turion into a m6805 which had the 7422GX BIOS. Neither the battery meter nor the built-in Ethernet worked. There must be something hard coded in the 7510GX BIOS to use a 3700+ because both the 3700+ and 4000+ are revision E5.

Seems like a Turion upgrade is worth it. There are some people in the sager forum that managed to change the A64 with a turion (with proper software) and they mentioned a battery increase from 1:45 mins to almost 3:00 hours .

I wonder if a bios from another Arima Turion based laptop can be modified to fit our laptops. So, the people that worked on the bios, how far were you ab;e to modify it?

Thanks

Perhaps it's the cpu driver in windows? Thats if your speaking of the lockup issue at least. Seems really odd that changing the cpu would cause that.

Just wondering is there has been any update on this?

I've been playing with it in the Phoenix demo editor, just to get familiarity. I'd appreciate whatever progress you've made also.

2 years on the shelves now, that bios and chipset still have major issues that need to be addressed ( haha) imho.
