Basically, what I did was:
(a) print all the Dell instructions for disassembling the laptop for replacing a video card here http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...2/en/index.htm.
(b) download Driver Cleaner Professional Edition (actually, it is free for personal use) from http://www.drivercleaner.net.
(c) install Dell XPS Gen 2 system bios A05 from http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/IXPS2A05.EXE (compatibility with 7800 Go GTX),
(d) remove the NVIDIA driver from the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.
(e) reboot to SAFE MODE (press F8 on booting up).
(f) use DC Pro to remove all traces of the NVIDIA drivers from the registry.
(h) unplug from mains, remove the battery, and disassemble the laptop (be sure you remove all the screws from under the laptop to remove the palm rest that covers the card.
(i) remove the four screws holding the card and remove the card itself.
(j) put the new card in place and assemble back,
(k) boot the laptop back, press F2 to go to the Setup utility then say Exit and Save, reboot again,
(l) should be booted to windows now in the ugly low-res mode: now cancel all automatic installation and install the NVIDIA drivers. I have basic 78.51 drivers from Dell and I score 6495 3DMark 2005 not overclocked.
Hope it helps--Alex
