LCD Problem.

Thread Starter
Starting last week, my lcd panel has started flickering. Not the backlight ... rather the image displayed flickers into lines across the lcd. I have been trying to figure out the problem and I have been told that the inverter would only cause a backlight flicker or total backlight failure but not image flickering like im getting. When I tap either the monitor or the main casing below the keyboard, the flickering stops.

So that seems to leave the lcd panel and the video controller. I was told by a tech that the video controller is not integrated to the board on this laptop. Is there anyway I can test the controller? How is it connected to the board and is it easy to get to. Since it seems to start flickering upon moving the panel, would it be more likely it is actually the panel failing?

I have also been trying to find out how to disassemble the case but I have not found any guides. If someone has the repair manual for this laptop they are willing to send to me that would be great. Otherwise I will try and purchase it from somewhere I guess. Any help you can offer with my problem would be great.

No, that seems to leave LCD connector on the main board. Quite typical for laptops too. Only some laptops have a screw that fixes connector in place. Most just leave it alone, so it may become loose.

I went ahead and removed the cover which blocks the lcd cable and it looked like it was installed correctly. It IS held in by a screw but I decided to remove it anyways (just out of curiosity). When I pulled on it - it came out with virtually no force, like it wasntclipped in. I pushed t back in and then removed it again ... but it required much more force. It appears that the screw which holds the cable down actually lifts one side of the plug if over tightened. I think the Acer tech that did the repairs on my unit might have cranked it down a little too hard. Anyways im crossing my fingers.

If this wasnt the problem I let ya know ... Thanks for the advice

*keeps fingers crossed*

Flickering LCD

I have similar problem with my machine (TM 8103) image on my display becomes flickering - this can be toggled on/off by tapping the area on the case left to touchpad (just below the keyboard).
When I work on AC this does not seem to be very disturbing and appears only occasionally - but when I switch to DC power, after about 30-40 mins of computer operation further work on my computer is very difficult due to image distortion/flickering.
Anyone, any ideas what this could be? Could this be software related problem, or rather hardware??

My machine is still covered by warranty and I do not feel like opening it so easy solutions will be most appreciated.

I have never heard of an lcd flickering because of software. In terms of causes ... if the image remains constant but the lighting flickers it is usually either a faulty inverter or backlight. If it flickers into lines it is usually either panel, cable, or video controller failure.

In my case the plug into the video controller was loose because of a repair I had done under warranty. I simply loosened the retaining screw, replugged the cable and re-snugged the retaining screw. It hasnt flickered for over a week now so I think I got it.
