Targus Sport Backpack TSB212 and 8886/7

I just got the Targus backpack and man does it rock for carrying my 8886/7. It fits perfectly with enough room to fit two or three textbooks. Lots of pockets for cables and pens and junk. It's nicely padded and looks good too. I looked at the Deluxe version but it has this weird flap over the top that seemed rather cumbersome. Also, the extra pockets were rather strange. You have to see it to know what I mean. So, I highly recommend the Targus Backpack if you want to lug your lappy around with some books to class or on a trip or whatever. It works great.

PS - I had a HUGE backpack that could fit my lappy in it and about 5 textbooks...but the items in it didn't fit very snug and didn't feel very secure when I carried it to class. Oh, and the straps broke...so be like me and go Targus

How does the laptop handle inside the backpack? I mean, does it sort of bounce around, or is it genuinely strapped to your back? What about the hard-disks, do they shake and stuff? I still don't think I have the guts to put my laptop in a backpack and just run along...

Cheers.

I bought the Targus TBS-315 also with my 8600 and it is a nice backpack.

The problems I have with it though are:

1) No wheels.
2) Very snug fit.
3) No wheels <BG>!

I just ordered the High Sierra A.T. Gear Wheeled Computer Case (Nightfall/Black).

When I travel, I like to bring my entire portable office with me and the weight can add up to over 40 pounds with the 8600.

In Texas it gets HOT and it is much preferable to pull instead of carry!

Regards,

Shane

Has anything ever happened to the laptop though? More specifically, have you lost any data to hard-disk malfunction?

Thanks. Cheers.

I have NEVER lost any data on a laptop because of droppage (and I have been using notebooks since 1986).

While many manufacturers will tell you how well their case will protect your laptop, the BEST advice is to NEVER drop your computer. If you do from any good height or happen to fall on it if you slip, you will most likely experience hardware problems.

Shane

I agree... dropping laptops doesn't seem like such a hot idea regardless of the case, but I'm talking about problems arising simply due to moving the thing around too much (or in a backpack). Thanks.

Cheers.

No problem

The laptop fits very snugly...in a good way...into the backpack. No jostling around or anything. I had another laptop in a larger backpack that didn't have a padded partition for the laptop like the Targus does and the laptop got scratched. In the Targus, my laptop seems perfectly protected. I also like the idea of having the laptop on my back as opposed to swinging by my side where it might bump into something solid.

Is the 315 the one with the goofy flap over the top? Is that as annoying as it looks? What about the pockets in the front, are they easily accesible...they look like they would be a pain.

I have the deluxe Targus backpack. The flap over the top isn't that annoying. I like the backpack, that's for sure. It is set up differently than the normal one, though. The side pockets are bigger on the deluxe...but the normal backpack has a front pocket. I think the deluxe is a little bigger with total space. The normal backpack has two zippered sections...whereas the deluxe has only one big one (with the laptop partioned by a divider with velcro strap) and a smaller section right under the flap.

I really don't think you will be dissapointed either way you go.

thats why I carry my stuff in mesenger bags, if you fall the bag wont break your fall.

lol, makes sense. Targus seems to be a great laptop backpack company. I like samsonite as well... The one I have for my school lappy is a targus, though, and it's just a side bag or whatever and it's REALLY nice IMHO. Wish the 8887 would fit in it but NO WAY.
