Internet lag time. 51m

Thread Starter
I ordered my Alienware 51m on 11.08 , Phase 9 as of 12-21-03. I recieved it as of yesterday, 12-23-03.

I have a few questions if anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it.

1. Are widescreen dvd's supposed to not fill the entire wide screen laptop I have? The reason I bought the wide-screen was to watch dvd's and so this seems like a waste.

2. My computer seems to lag from when I click an icon or link and when it actually processes the info...is this normal or should i just feel lucky?

3. What is the clearest resolution that this thing has? I can't tell the difference myself, but if anyone else can please let me know.

4. Are there any tweaks I need to do to optomize the performace of my laptop or is it as good as it's going to get as of when I opened the box?

Note: FedEx delivered my computer a half hour late in "wet" condition. i got a call from my younger brother..."umm, we got your computer but it seems to be damaged maybe, want me to open it and see"? I get home to find the box completely thrased and soaked and tormented in too many ways to describe here. However, the laptop seems to be undamaged because alienware really does take care when putting these things in the box...getting them to the point to go into the box...that's where they need some help (those slow bastards)

If you don't know what a clear res is and don't know what WIDE means on DVD's then I would not recommend the level of tweaks I would do to make the AW faster. by the way dude...think about it...WIDE SCREEN format....Wide being the key word...

Good luck your going to need it LOL

Okies... first off, the screen was designed as the cheapy screen, but it's supposed to better handle the widescreen aspect of DVDs, so the answer is that it's working fine.

Next, the issue is with your net connection, or router (using WiFi by chance?), not the pooter.

Max resolution is 1680x1050 for that system.

You can tweak the computer, but right now you have bigger issues... there's no really nice way to say it than to just say it. You need to sit down and read your manual, check your invoice, and get a bit more experience with computers before looking into tweaks. All the stuff you asked about is either directly listed on your invoice, on the AW site, or is common sense.

Little steps first... (we've all started at this point sometime or another).

And you should really have a chat with FedEx about the condition of your package... that's just wrong (they are now outsourcing for most of their deliveries and the results are horrifying)
