Dell Inspiron 6000 won't wake up after I close screen lid..

Sometimes when I close my lid on my laptop, it won't wake up. The power light on the screen (the circle with the little line) is on, i try moving around the touchpad and pressing the keys but the screen wont kick in. I tried pressing the power button, thinking it was hibernating or something but nope. The only way I get the screen back is holding the power button down and then turning it back on. Maybe I changed something in the Dell Quickset battery settings, is there anyway to set this to default, it never happened before.

try updating the video card drivers. maybe when resuming it has a bad driver config.

My 6000 did the same thing a while back. I had to disconnect the battery to be able to boot up again. I changed my settings to "do nothing" when I close my lid now and don't use the hibernate feature that way anymore -wasn't worth the trouble and I don't need the feature, but if you come up with the answer I will try it again.

I have this problem sometimes coming out of standby on my 710m. The screen doesn't come back on and I have to turn it off and on again. Quite annoying.

have you all tried upgrading the chipset, notebook sys soft, bios, and video card stuff?

i had this problem a while back, and have never had it again after the updates.

I have A09 and have the problem; though, it only happens very occasionally. Think it is just par of the course with Windows and Standby. Unless it happens on a regular basis, I wouldn't worry about it. If it does happen regularily, start updating drivers. Goodluck.

Well, time to chime in.

I've got the same problem with my i6000d w/ A09.

Computer just goes into sleep and then returns to the desktop and just hangs at a black screen with a cursor.

Very very annoying.

i think its a dell design flaw......

I have had this issue once on my i6000d, with A09 bios. I've only had the notebook for about a week, and it's onlyhappened once, but it was exactly as everyone in this thread described.

this problem seems to be much more common with ati cards than nvidia.

It happened to me twice...first time i waited about 5 minutes before the screen finally came back on...second time i waited as long, held down my power button, let it turn off, then rebooted and i haven't had the problem since (this stuff happened a few months back)

My screen is set to do nothing when it shuts off...I have my lappy on all the time

This was happening to me, but when i changed the screen saver to the 3D Text option the screensaver would always show when opened up the i6000d if i let it sit long enough for the screen saver to come on. Then i just touch the pad and it goes away and i type in my password and my screen works fine? Sometimes in other screensavers the screen stays black and i touch the screen to wake it up and it stays black so i have to type my password even though I can't see anything. I assumed the password prompt came up so after I type it and push enter...then finally the screen turns on. bleh. I'm just gonna keep it on that 3D Text screensaver lol.
