can someone make me like this, because i like everything else
I'm looking at my 8600 wsxga+ screen and this glossy thing is another beast altogether. Seeing my head in my screen with a dark background isn't helping
Does everyone like (or grown to like) the glossy screen better??

I honestly don't notice it with my 17" Ultrasharp connected

Yes, gloss is annoying. But so is matte to me. No happy medium that I have seen in high end laptop screens.

maybe i just need to get used to it. I have to say with pictures and video it looks pretty good, better than my 8600 15.4" WSXGA+. For normal computer use it just seems a little harder to look at....

Try not using lights in the room? I really like my gloss screen when it's dark, and it's not too bad when the angle is right... try using natural sunlight?

I was dreading the fact that i was getting a glossy screen..
I thought it would have 500 layers of varnish to make it "EXTRA SHINY"

But when i got it.. It was not that bad. Looking back at it all i worried to much,
Its glossy.. But not over done

Overall.. I like it..

I don't like the glossy screen. Just one more reason why I ordered a new laptop and I'm selling my barely used xpsg2.

wow... I like mine

its one of the reasons i bought this laptop in the first place. i saw it at a kiosk on an xps 2 and i liked it.

I really like the glossy display. When I do get glare I can usually negate it by angling the screen downward just a bit.

i like the glossy display on my laptop to the point where all matte screens look like crap.

I personally don't like/hate the glossy glare screens-finishes. There are anti-glare filters out there even for notebooks (I'll post links later), I haven't seen them in action on these notebooks however.

It's funny as there is a long history of making screens anti-glare with coats & filters because glare is annoying & is known to cause eye strain (even headaches in some) but my guess is that now notebooks are more multimedia centric capable of recording TV & gameplay that this trend began to emerge to look more like TV screens.

Ideally there should be a filter you could easily slip in-out-on now or eventually a button to make the screen glossy or matte or even self adapting (nanotechnology?) as notebooks are of course still used for internet-reading documents-productivity and in varying lighting locations but filters could be a solution now.

If anyone has tried any privacy filters or other filters on these notebooks, let us know to what degree it eliminates the glare...

Thanks,

i had the same concerns, but trust me, once you actually get the screen, you'll notice that as long as you stay inside, the glossy screen is MUCH better for you.

on the other hand, if the majority of your work are done out in the field, i woudl recommend against the glossy screen. the few times where i've had to pull out my laptop in a car for work, there is a fair amount of reflection/glare. it's still a decent screen to look at, however, since the text is so small in its native resolution, with the added glare, it makes the screen hard to read.

HTH.

While strictly using overhead lights really does help, I have too many windows in line with my desk that I'm not about to shut with blinds or blackout curtains during the day.

I even worked with Sony & Toshiba glossy screens for several hours & do not like the gloss unless you really plan to use in a highly controlled lighting environment.

But as I mentioned in a prior thread I am very conscious about minimizing eye strain with larger fonts/DPI on high res screens/non-gloss.

You may very well grow to like it but I'm not convinced your eyes always will so the anti-glare filters may be an option I guess, still looking into it on these screens but as of today I plan to order the WXGA+ matte option.

I think I'm here as well. Won't go back.

Those who do like it-did you like+prefer it from the beginning or did it take hours-days-weeks-months?

Seems like the poster is also looking for more of a reference point as he does not appear to like it from the beginning.

actually after using it for a day now, it does look better than my 8600's WSXGA+ screen to me. everything is brighter in a good way, pics and videos look great; I'm not sure how much of that has to do with the glossy screen as much as just the quality of the screen itself. I'm liking the added real estate; first 17" laptop for me...
