LIke someone else mentioned. Everest is free and quite good. (used to be free anwyays). You can also download Sisoft sandra which is shareware(limited options until you pay) but it should tell you quite a bit..

Definitely Everest, like Hardball suggested. Other options include

Sisoft Sandra - http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html...uy&langx=en&a=
Futuremark's System Info tool bundled with PCMark05 - http://www.futuremark.com/products/pcmark05/
Belarc's System Info tool - http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

EDIT - Bah - didn't read all the posts. Was going to suggest Belarc.

If you're looking for something to identify unknown devices in Windows, then I don't know of anything for that. Best bet is to use the Device Manager, click on the Details tab and check out the Hardware ID.

Think before posting ;)

Heheh, I love how some very smart guys like to tell things...

Don't you think I already thought about Device Manager? Device Manager is for idiots, if you allow me that word. That's exactly why I asked for "something simmilar to the lspci command on linux".

Why Device Manager is crappy? Well, the identification of the device is given by the driver itself, not by the hardware. That's why people that uses Omega drivers have that suffix "Omega" on the video card model. Well, I can guarantee you that the suffix "Omega" is not the true description of the hardware. Also, my modem is named as "HSP56 MR-8170", and each driver that works with it also gives me a different name.

That said, I can only think that Device Manager is not a trustful way to list hardware, just because drivers can "mask" the true name of the hardware... Oh well, I have a Toshiba notebook here at home and the modem is a "Toshiba modem" (it's in fact the AC'97 modem). How informative is that, huh?

Thanks everyone else, I will try these apps...

If you use MIRC there is a very cool scrypt call SystemInfo i think, written by (Something like ~C, weird non A-Z Char and a C) which presents the real Hardware name in a cool format.
