No power/AC/charge lights when i plug it in, NOTHING. Its not even fricking 2 days old. Power button does nothing

I put the thing on Hibernate with BF1942 running to go eat, and i cant turn it back on.

Its a 5680 BTW, any tips on what to do? Batteries are 100% and its plugged in.

Merry ****ing christmas....a broken 2 day old laptop is all i need.

Have you tried removing the battery, unplugging it, leaving it for a minute or so then reinstalling the battery and plugging it back in? I have an old toshiba that somethimes goes into a hard system freeze such that none of the keys work, not even the power key and the screen goes black. I generally have to yank out the battery and unplug it to hard reset.

The power button works through software, so it's possible the system simply froze up. I think the keyboard/CD processor controls the status lights and power button so there may be a problem with it...? Definitely do as ab526 suggested, since that'll solve the problem if it was indeed a freeze.

That worked, but it keeps restarting randomly during games now as if it were overheating. I keep it on a solid board that allows airflow when I play...and the fans are blowing fulll blast. What could be causing this?

Does it feel really hot?put it on your lap and use it for a while....do your legs feel like they are burning?

you might also do a search for that program that someone posted on here, which will read the temperature on sager laptops...you can then see if your computer is overheating...i believe the shutoff is at 85 degrees...

i'm sorry i dont remember the thread name...but do a search..i think the guy is named henrik...

btw..i feel for you......

I tried downloading that, It didnt work because it was missing a DLL file. I also downloaded Speedfan, another temp monitor, but it only monitored my HDD.

If i put it on my lap, the fans wont get air. But it doesnt get burning hot i dont think

85 degrees? Wow, I thought it would get into the mid 100's. Maybe I am thinking about CPU's?
what would 85 degrees celsius be?
i dont remember the formula...dont feel like looking it up either

i dont remember if it's 85 F or C..sorry!

hmmm...does the laptop reboot if u r not playing games?
what if u just leave it turned on...just run an office program, or something to that effect....

you MIGHT also want to 100% isolate this problem...and reload Windows again...i know it's a pain...but if u keep having problems after reimaging...then you know it's the hardware...

the reboot is 85C not F, since my desktop idles at 98F and goes to 145 when gaming.

Well, my lappy is sitting here doing nothing(im on my desktop), and its not doing anything. No reboots right now, but when it rebooted once when running 3dmark, it immediately rebooted again(this is where i got the BSOD), while loading basic programs on my desktop.

Nothing in the backround taking memory, All i have running is my ATI software and touchpad software as my backround items, I scanned with Spybot and Adaware to make sure of no spyware.

Off topic: I just noticed i already sucked up 17 gigs of space in 2 days.(huge gamer, dumped all of my games on it) I wonder how long my whole HDD will last...lol

BTW, 85C is like 185F, your lappy would be on fire, i would never let it get that high.

145/60C is the MAX you should go, ive learned this over at the PC boards on www.gamefaqs.com, I go by this when monitoring my desktop(i said it goes to 145, but that was before I added 4 case fans)

I'd reload windows. That includes reformatting a new NTFS partition, then see if it still does it. Who knows what screws windows up so bad, but I've fixed some pretty weird problems by doing a hard reformat and reload.

Bah, i cant do that, Ive just settled in with it...

I think its a heat problem, even though i dont feel it getting that hot when it reboots, altough i may be wrong.
if you aren't blocking the air flow for the cooling then it doesnt seem like it would be a heat issue...unless if the heat sink for the video chip or cpu was not properly connected. if there was a general design flaw cuasing overheating, it would be evident probably, by now on this model. so, if over heating is not the most likely cause, then that would leave some other hardware cause and/or software cause. if it's software, then one thing u can do to check it is reformat and reinstall winxp and see if that helps. if that fixes it, then u would know it was likely the drivers/installation were the problem. if it doesn't fix it then u might start thinking it defintely was a hardware problem... i just read that u just got this computer a few days ago. it seems like maybe something is wrong with it hardware wise right since it pretty much crashes any old time? i say, try boot into safe mode and see what happens (F8 after POST screen usually) then if it crashes, most defintely reformat and re install windows and if its still flaky after that... it needs RMA!

BSODs are caused by one thing only -- memory errors. This is a software thing, not a hardware thing, usually... but if you get BSODs sometimes, that has nothing to do with heat. Anyway to check the temperature, all you do is run a game or DVD for a bit, then stop and check the underside of the notebook. The part near the heatsink should be warm but not burning, and the rest should be fairly cool.

I know it sounds stupid, but check to see if you have the Welcha (sp?) worm. It runs the CPU usage up to 100% and causes memory faults. We had a funny time at work one time when a computer that was brought in had several virii and worms on it. The software we use shows the file causing an infection and where it's trying to effect. So we're clicking through message of "blank" is trying to cause an infection in "blank," and after about 10, the worms Klez, Blaster and Welcha started trying to infect each other along with several virii, it was funny and I wish I had a screen capture *sigh.*

Anyway, try that. Sorry for the non-sequitar....

My CPU usage doesnt jump, but I will check.

Im waiting for my Reseller's tech support to call me back, Im gonna scan with Trendmicro.com's free scan, then with Mcafee virus scan(came with lappy).
