7800gtx Temps - Page 3

I get around 54C-58C idling...and when playing games at full settings/rez (crazy settings) I usually never go past 90C...Your temps are normal. However you may want to remove the GPU heatsink once again and see if it actually applied correctly and didn't fubar as soon as you put the heatsink back on. That happened with me and when I tightened the heatsink it all got sucked out of the center which had next to no AS5...and the rest had lots of AS5...so just make sure to apply AS5 to the center and try to make sure it gets a good thorough application

yeah... quick tip for putting the head spreader back on... screw the small black screws that anchor the card in 1st... then with the big heat spreader screws... do the cross pattern thing... start in one corner... tighten a bit... do the one diagnoally across from it a bit... then the other 2... keep doing it until its on there... that seemed to work for me... 1st few times i did one corner all the way and you could see that on the AS5 when i took off the spreader...

just my .02

While playing need for speed most wanted and everything at max ..it reaches 95C.

i guess if it doesnt go over a hundred its OK. however, you should try to keep it as low as possible. mine has never broken 90, even though my AS5 skillz arent the greatest and i did OC it a bit.

holy cow, i just did a reapplication of AS5.

before my temps were

cpu idle at 30c
gpu idle at 52-53c

after my reapplication

cpu idle at 28c
gpu idle at 65c

also continuing to rise.... okay i think i messed up somewhere (i put a very very thin coat on, much much thinner than the first coating i did)
What the heck.....?

I haven't upgraded to the 7800 yet...the 6800 is fine for me right now, but I'll probably upgrade in the future.

But I'm curious if we have any comparison number between the 6800 and the 7800 at idle and playing various games?

My GPU usually idles around 50c, I'm not sure what it is when playing games, but I8kfangui status history seems to suggest that it's never getting to 80c or higher like some people are reporting here.

i actually have a question for you guys.

after applying AS5, are your temp results as of immediately (as in a few hours) or do you guys post results after the break in period (200 hours)

also are you guys overclocking the card? My card idling at 55c is clocked to 440/1250 mhz

AS5 takes 200hours of burn-in time to give a full effect. Burn in cycle I was recommend is 2 days on, 1 day off, etc etc... for 12 days total (8 days on and 4 days off). This will give the requested break-in that the manufacturer calls for.

That's excessive. You only need to turn the comp off for an hour at max to get the TIM to cool down. Even then, you might see a 1-2C drop, if anything, after the AS5 settles. The thinner the layer and the better the application, the smaller the impact of the material used and any "setting" factors.

smok3n- AS5 is a silver-based thermal compound sold by Arctic Silver ( www.arcticsilver.com ). It lowers temps on the video card (or CPU if you use it there too) over the stock thermal pads that Dell uses, but requires finesse when applying it. I wouldnt attempt doing anything with it if you arent tech savvy.
i thought the nvidia cp temp was correct and i9kfangui was wrong. i thought it was decided that it's -6C lower than what the "real" temp is.

That very well could be the case and I got it backwards

damn u got my hopes up

For someone that has the 7800 GTX, and some time

Please try out the a few different versions of the nvidia drivers and report back idle temps with max speed running (i9kfangui 2.3 beta 3 build 4)
examples
81.95
81.98
Any others that support the 7800gtx go, the older the better.

Thanks!

EDIT: BTW, idle temps are also affected by ambient temp. Mine goes down about 8C when I start using the AC in the room.

I'm curious at what temperature the 7800 should be idling at? My 6800 idles at about 50c (right now at 47c). I would expect (and it looks from comments) that the 7800 idles quite a bit higher than that. Are there any implications for this, like a lot more fan usage or other problems?

52C idle
71C load@445C 1250 ROM

Using quadcooler made for 15" lappy's but works great on the 9300.

I'm about to install the 7800gtx but I'm new to this, and dont have AS5 - you said you wouldnt recommen attempting this unless the person was tech savvy, so my question is how important is the AS5?

Is it really necessary?

How can i check the temps, thx,

aight everything found out, ill post more questions once they come up... about I9KFanGUI ^^

Ok, so i was looking around, the second fan should be activated on GPU speed, right? It was set on CPU speed... What are your fan speed settings? Thx ^^
