Is it really necessary?
It's not necessary at all, the thermal plate that Dell uses is fine

You need to install I8KFanGUI first, then place I9KFanGUI in the same directory as I8KFanGUI and open I9KFanGUI. Make sure that I8KFanGUI in never running during any of this

Mr. K, are you serious? I can't tell if people on here are sarcastic or not, so just making sure.

the stuff dell uses is OK. however, if you are not satisfied with the temperatures or if you want to OC, then you shoudl apply AS5. if you are afraid of doing it, i would recommend not to. if you screw it up it will end up being worse than the dell pads anyway.

Amen, if I'm sarcastic I usually add the appropriate emoticon, such as

P.S.- For you guys who are worried about temps, I just completed a little mod on my Go 7800GTX.

Why do i have to install the old one first? Everything works fine, i just had to install that fanio driver ^^. I was wondering to what temps and speeds your fans are set to.

Hmm, I've read some of the gpu-temps here in the forum.
Actually I installed rivatuner to check mine.

I was a bit shocked.

110° C after 20 minutes of Black & White 2 (Not really a good game)

55° C idle.

Well, perhaps I should think of installing AS5. At the moment I have the original Dell stuff, but there is nothing overclocked.

Do I have to worry about my card?
Those are really high temps for your 7800, even if overclocked. You should consider calling Dell up on this for an RMA.
Just auto OC it, I seem to be incapable of ocing mine, so ill just live with 7250 points >-<.

So now I have tested my 7800 with some other games (Quake 4, Battlefield 2) and with 3D Mark 05.
The Temp never went over 87° C.

Is it possible that Black & White 2 (110° C) stresses my card much more than the other applications?
Maybe it's because of the zoom feature in B&W 2?
Is there somebody who has B&W 2 and could tell me his temps while playing it?
Lot of questions.

After all I will install AS 5 next week anyway and tell you my new temps. But then I must reinstall B&W 2, because after the 110° C I didn't want to play it again

Hi!
I have just testet my 7800 GTX concerning temps and here are the results:

idle in 2D mode: 50°C
load in 3D mode (400MHz) and 2 hours F.E.A.R (max. details): 73°C

I think this should be in a good range?

my 7800 GTX idles at 53 degrees C @ 450/1200 no crashing problems at all, and while playing CS the temp doesnt seem to go above 80 C however i do get artifacts, I am gonna try dropping the core 5 or 10 MHz.

on the atitool stress test it gets up to 88 C

I thought the 7800 was supposed to run cooler then the 6800ultra ? My 6800ultra idles at 41c and maxes at 50c-55c with dell cooling. Why are all you’re 7800 running hotter? now I don’t want to upgrade

3dmark05 50C after hours of online game play 55c

edit
it would be worth it for a score of 8000 or more .LOL
post #73 of 79
now @ 50deg C idle and max high 80's deg C after hours of fear, with Artic silver 5

(down from 106deg C with dell stock thermal pad)

well worth it, started with thin layer, went back in and put some more on the core centre

*temps logged with rivatuner, fan controll with fangui19 over m170bios5

Thank you!
Now I am a bit calmed about my temps.
They are a bit high, but I think after installing AS5 I will have nearly the same temps as you.

I'm still surprised that Black & White 2 causes the highest temps of all games.
But the zoom feature really seems to be the source of it.
Anyway, it is the only real cool feature in B&W 2.
to get those temps I have to make sure the bottom intake vents arent blocked (back of laptop propped up a bit) and that fangui is set for both fans on max

when I applied AS5 I noticed that the stock dell thermal pad was pretty much cooked by playing fear @ 106deg C
post #76 of 79
Yeah i suggest doing as5. I had high temps, when i installed as5 i noticed that my core isnt level. In the process of trying to fix it i broke my heatsink, in the end ill just put on more as5.
P.S.: HS is still broke, hoping to find someone with a broken 7800 gtx ^^.

Holy smokes! I never knew my 7800 gets this hot. This is after running ATi Tool "Scan for Artifacts" for 25 minutes. Though my idle temp is only 54. Time to clean out the dust again.

7800 Gtx Temps

My temps for CPU are 26 Idle 52 under load XPS GEN2

GPU 46 idle 58 to 72 load FEAR...

So I see mine as cool
No ARCTIC SILVER 5

i played fear @ 1440x900 (native), no AA, 8x AF, MAX everything, no soft shadows for about 2.5 hrs last night.

max temp reported by i9kfangui 2.3 beta 4 was 96C for the gpu. this means that the card was about 102 C assuming the nv cp is correct and fangui is wrong.

i also have as5 applied. gpu idles at 53-54C (59-60C according to nv cp)

does this seem normal to everyone?
