HELP: iBook or iMac

I want to choose between a 12" iBook or 17" iMac. I know there is a big difference, but maybe someone can help me decide. I'm a college student who lives away from home, so the iBook would be easy to take to library or class or when I come home. But the iMac isnt that difficult to be able to take home either, since its so easy to set it up. Also, the library has laptops to borrow. The iMac specs are just so much better than iBook, but is it worth it to lose performance to gain portability?

Wait until at least February, the new line of iBooks/PowerBooks will come out based on the new Intel Chip probably with built in iSight, Widescreen, 25% thinner and a Rumour of an incorporated iPod?

I got with the iBook...

snaggle is right, if you can, wait!

if money is the issue, consider an Acer notebook, will give you better performance for the buck than the ibook.

u should know better abf, tsk tsk....

depends on what u qualify as "better performance for the buck".

if u want to buy a low end $600 notebook w/ 256MB of RAM, 2 hours of battery life or less, an overly flexible chassis, a lack of firewire and bluetooth, and integrated video for your absolute basics then yes, get the acer and get your bang for your buck. if however u want to fill in the blanks of the mentioned missing features on any machines, PC or Mac, start pumping up the price. when u get to a machine that suits the mentioned needs, u will likely be well beyond the price of a 12" iBook (i.e.-stock 12" acer is lighter than the iBook w/o it's external optical drive and larger battery along, has a larger HD, but lacks dedicated GPU and only gets decent battery life over 3 hours when the larger and heavier battery is used, all for $300+ more than a stock 12" iBook.)

all of that said, if u can wait till january, u may have a good chance of getting a truly new iBook w/ the intel change possibly happening thereabouts. personally i'd wait unless u absolutely need a system now.

Because its suppose to be faster, but the problem is all the glitches and bugs when first switching over to a new processor.

i'm hoping for a lighter iBook w/ even better battery life and a widescreen. granted i won't be getting one till further down the road, but it's nice to window shop and research b4 a purchase.
