Quick question for your Dell users out there.

Once your item completed "build" stage and went to the "testing" stage, how long did it take before it was shipped?

I ordered my 5150 on Dec 23, Dell told me it should be at my door on Jan. 10.

On my 8600 the testing phase lasted only about a day,and it was boxed and shipped within 2 days after that....Don't pay much attention to the delivery date that Dell states on line they are usually several days earlier in their Delivery than estimated, from order to delivery on my system was no more than 8 days, and I was quoted as being nearly 2 weeks for delivery on line, so usually you will get it early....

Good deal.

My 8600 went through the first three phases of production in about 2 days. I've been in the "boxing" phase now for about 2 days. I'll just keep waiting

Yeah, their shipping date must be worst case, because when I ordered it said it would ship January 5th. I got the email yesterday (the 28th) saying it had shipped, though according to the website that just means it's done, it won't get to UPS until Monday (30th).

Only bad thing is I had it shipping to my dorm since I would be back up at school by then, but with the early shipping date I could have had it shipped to my house so I could play with it a little before school starts up.

Well my worst "fear" was confirmed. It shipped from Orlando, so my new laptop that I didn't think would come until the 8th is now currently sitting at my dorm just waiting to be opened. And I won't be able to get to it until the 4th when dorms open back up. I do wish they could get that shipping estimate right.

All well, I waited in essence about 2 and a half years for this laptop (very belated graduation gift), so another week won't kill me. It's just fustrating.

Edit: Oh, and FYI for other people wondering how long it will take, I ordered it on Sunday December 21st, it said it "shipped" on Sunday December 28th, and I "recieved" it on Tuesday, December 30th. The original estimated shipping date given at order time was January 5th.

I ordered mine on the 24th, and it is going to be here today (The 30th). Very nice

You guys are lucky. It takes 30 business days to get a Dell down here in Manila (approx 40 days total). A local distributor places an order with Dell Singapore and then the order's forwarded to Malaysia. The unit's then sent back to Singapore, before being sent here.

I was pretty happy when I got my D600, but one of my colleagues got a D600 which turned out to have some logic board issues, so the distro had to send it back a week after the notebook was delivered to him. It took another month before he finally got a working notebook. Unlucky guy...

We also couldn't get the WiFi mini-PCI cards due to some odd export restriction. Pity, since I'm guessing a Dell TrueMobile 1300 just might consume less power than the Linksys WPC54Gs we use.

Anyway, you guys are really lucky with your relatively short waiting periods, maybe Dell Singapore will eventually allow us to order direct.

I ordered 12/30 and got it 1/5. Not bad considering new years and a weekend fell during this time.

My 8600 just went into the boxing stage. I can't wait! I'm hoping it'll actually ship by Thursday or so. Does that seem resonable?

both the inspirons i ordered came through exactly 4 days from actually placing the orders.. i wasnt even there when they came
pretty good going.... i think ive been lucky 'cause even my alienware came through less than a week from placing order.. once again i missed the delivery

wow ordered my 600M on the 11th of January, shipping date estimated is on the 23 =(...hope you guys are right and I get my lappy asap, i got next day air b/c i need the lappy asap for my classes in school...btw Dr. Jones...you are lucky...AW is notorious for taking at least a month, I frequent AW threads all the time, they even have a weekly phase thread =P....

Ship Times for the Inspiron 8600, Latitude D800, Precision M60 Have the quickest ship times since there built here in the US where as the 5xx0 series comes from Malaysia (20+ days)

It varies as of now they should be Made in NA (Mexico, Canada, US who knows) but i can see them being outsourced to Taiwan eventually or Indonessia
