Blue Screen of Death

I got up this morning greeted nicely to my laptop by a Blue Screen of Death. I don't have a digital cam to take a shot but this is the message I got:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ...blah blah blah

****STOP:0*000000D1(and more numbers like that)

I rebooted and it booted up normal, except my Norton tray didn't show up, and everything was quite sluggish. My Avant Browser would just hang and wouldn't come up and I didn't really try anything else.

The only thing I've done in the past couple days was install the new Catalysts 3.10's using that Petje? hack from Driver Heaven. I then completely uninstalled them and installed the new Omega drivers. I've been running Halo just fine ever since.

The peripherials I had in were the power, ethernet cable, USB optical mouse, speakers, and that DVi-CRT converter with my home monitor hooked up. I thought I'd play it safe and post my problem here and use my old computer while I'm home from break. Thanks guys.

EDIT: I thought I'd mention I'm on the 8890 running Windows XP Professional. A 60 gig 5400rpm drive too and a gig of ram.

*I let my laptop cool off while I was working and everythign works dandy in safe mode, however programs still hung at their splashscreen. I tried MSword2003 and it wouldn't load up.

Surf the Microsoft Knowledge Base on "_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP 0x000000D1" for a bunch of hits. I would try installing your last stable ATI drivers and leave the CRT disconnected until you get working again. It's fixable, just the usual MS pain in the butt for awhile.

Also it might pay you to set the machine back to a restore point prior to your driver hack. That way you can isolate the problem.

Well I've been playing with the laptop the past couple days and everything seems to work fine. Went to a LAN party and had no trouble running games. I guess MS decided to throw a fit one night? I don't know but I'll try going back to old drivers if this happens again, thanks.
