hypersonic hijacked my icons!

just got my CX7- it rocks. no time for a review now, but I wonder if somebody can help.

Hypersonic's custom XP theme has apparently hijacked all the standard XP icons. I can't even change them by switching themes or choosing custom icons. No matter what I do, the brushed-steel looking folder icons from Hypersonic override everything.

Anyone else encountered & fixed this?

thanks

Congrats on the system and looking forward to seeing your review.

As for the icons, there is a way to reset them. I will have to look at it again because I had done this on mine, but then I put it back because I didn't like the blah look.

I do know that StyleXP will do it, but I am sure there is another way that is easier without going that route.

ratmyr, Is it a windowblinds theme?
Actually, I believe it is a home grown theme. There are two executables that 1) clears the icon cache and 2) installs the appropriate files in a themes directory. It doesn't seem to use Windowblinds or any other external tool that I am aware of.

I meant to check this out when I got home last night, but I ended up doing something with the wife and kids and never touched my system. So will have to check this evening. 14-16hr days suck.

yeah i dumped the hypersonic icons, but i realized they were a lot cooler than the stock garbage so i put them back. only thing that really bugged me was the icons overlapping at 1920xwhatever, so i had to go in properties to change the icon spacing

Yeah. Same thing on this side. The icon size (first item) and the spacing makes a big difference. Else, you have humungous icons.

hopefully i dont have to do it again as i sent it in for repairs and it just arrived today.

Can someone post a screenshot of the Hyper icons. sounds pretty cool that they altered Windows to have a Hypersonic Edition.

I will take a look at doing that later, however, all they really are is a dark grey set of icons. The file folders are grey and so are the desktop items. But they are much nicer than the default yellow.

Will try to post a screen shot later - unless someone beats me to it.

The EX7 is definitely an awesome beast. I miss mine greatly. The FX7 is definitely going to give it a run for its money and either one with a 7800 must be awesome.

Enjoy Christmas!

okay, I figured it out. There's a "\themes\hypersonic" folder somewhere. I just deleted the hypersonic folder and re-applied default XP theme.

I know that squeezebox fixed his problem, but there is a possible other issue that I think everyone needs to be aware of just in case it happens to you.

One of the things that kept happening after I received my CX7 was some sort of registry error. It would complain about a bad image for the mydocuments.ico icon in the themes directory. I don't have the exact error message handy. This would pop up whenever I was installing certain software and was becoming annoying. I could not get rid of it, and since I could not install StyleXP (see a thread I started in the Sager forum), I couldn't replace the icons with another set.

Once I reloaded my system and had everything set up, I tried to install the theme pack and the same problem came right back. This time, I went into System Restore and restored to the point right before I installed the them pack. This removed the registry entries (there are a lot) from my system. Presto. Not only was it fixed, but the icons stayed the same.

Something you may want to keep in mind. System Restore Points can be a life saver at times.

Good luck!
