Hi people.

I am looking to buy one of these rigs.

I am getting the insprion 9300

1.86 cpu
media center OS
remote control
17 wuxga
1gig Ram
100gb 5400 Hdd
wireless b/g with bluetooth
combo drive
6cell battery
nvidia 6800 gpu

$1255 Shipped

I am getting the 6000

1.7 centrino
media center OS
remote control
15.4 wuxga
1gig ram
100gb 5400 Hdd
combo drive
integrated graphics
9cell battery (6cell with bluetooth)
wireless b/g (bluetooth with 6cell)

$990 shipped.

considering that the weight difference is only 500 gms which further goes down with the 9cell battery which makes a better buy.

6000 is bang on target but I can stretch till 9300

mind says 6000 but heart says 9300

I am not a gamer but I wouldnt change the configuration.

which do u suggest should I go for?

9300 - the $265 difference isn't much to poke at, the graphics card is better, the size is easily manageable, and you'll be kicking yourself if you buy the 6000 instead.

is the 6000 not good?

the only difference I am seeing between the two is

17inch screen
nvidia gpu
woofer and 6 usb ports against 4

otherwise its the exact same config

UXGA on a 15.4" screen is going to be HELL.

Get the best thing that you can afford. I find the 9300 is extremely portable for it's size. It's also light.

It just comes down to what YOU want. I had to make the same decision, but I already have a 15" laptop so I figured I'd jump up a bit. Seemed silly to have both 15" & 15.4" for me. The Nvidia video card did the deal since it's future proof for at least 2 years. There mgiht be faster cards but it will play every game on the market without a hitch.

Here were my requirements:
-dedicated video board
-portable
-$1500 or less
-high end system that would be able to last 2 years
-something that could take the place of BOTH the 8200 & 1100

The 9300 was the only machine that fit the bill.

Intel integrated graphics isn't as bad as it sounds, but you are certainly limited to what games you can play. It also hurts resale if that is a concern.

I just noticed

The cpu is faster on the 9300 than 6000. 1.86 against 1.73
I guess I will go with the 9300

I'd rather add $200 of upgrades to the 6000.

I cant upgrade coz thats the max discounts I get from the coupons.

its either this configuration or that.

17inch, nvidia 6800, 2extra usb ports and woofer, 1.86 against 1.73 and less than 500gms weight difference makes the deal worth i guess

You have the 6Cell Battery with the 9300...
I hope you are looking to pick up a 9Cell battery from someplace else...
The 6 Cell won't get you far on the 9300 if you plan to use it.

for on the go use I guess 2-3 hours would be enough for me. Will the 9300 last that much?
I'm disappointed in both the 6 and 9 cell batteries I have on my 9300. It's like 1.5 hours with the 6 and 2 hours with the 9 so far.
2 hrs with the 9? i get almost 5hr15min with mine. you need to enable powerplay (videocard), and undervolt with centrino hardware controller.

your numbers sound like everything is cranked up at full power. this will only make the 9cell last maybe 2.5 hrs!

I just ordered the 9300. $1265 shipped .Yay!!!!!!

Estimated ship time is 3January. Do you think. It will be that late or will it come early? My hp had arrived a week earlier.

I recommend 9300 easily over 6000. 9300 has larger screen, far superior video performance, more USB2 ports.

i prefer the 6000, but i have a usb hub, dont need a 17" laptop, and have no need to play games out the wazoo (:

Okay, thanks. I was a little pissy about the battery life so far. How do I do this? Quickset is set to max battery.

Get the 9300 for sure, its got a bigger display that is an ultrasharp or truelife if thats what you want, extra usb ports, a dvi and vga port, the dedicated graphics of the nvidia 6800 go card, its only half an inch deeper and an inch wider than the 6000.
Im not much of a gamer myself and dont game on my laptop or watch dvds unless im on the road for some occasion that work calls for, in those instances the 6800 card really shines, plus it adds resale and you dont have to worry about whether or not your laptop can handle a game or some other task you might throw at it.
I went for the 9300 and it has exceeded my expectations, I would have been disappointed with the 6000 especially when you consider the price is almost the same.
