i reeeaaally like having a 17" widescreen, which the 9300 does not. and i just purchased the 8510gz in november so i can't just sell it and fork out the extra for the m170. this is a project.. if it works good... if not.. can't say i didn't do my research and try what i could to make it work.

Huh? The standard screen of the 9300 IS a 17" WIDESCREEN. Staring at one right now... 1920x1200 resolution (with the Truelife upgrade). Not sure where u read that the 9300 doesn't have a widescreen.....

I would not waste your time trying to put a GPU made for a DELL notebook into a Gateway notebook. I suspect that it will be a time consuming and ultimately unproductive process (perhaps even damaging the notebook or GPU in the process). I was under the impression that GPU's for notebooks are made to specific notebook manufacturer specifications based on the available space, power, and cooling requirements of the notebook in question. Therefore unless Gateway designed your notebook with very similar specifications to the i93000 / M170 - I doubt it will even fit in the case, not to mention possible power, thermal, and BIOS issues. If you are unhappy with the Gateway you may want to eBay it and put the proceeds toward a i9300 or M170.

no i'm happy with it. it does what i need it to do. i was just checking into whether or not it would work. now that i have found out that the dell cards will not work. it is time for me to seek an alternate method.

Video card was killed at depo @ 530 1400. Started CS:S and it fried.
Motherboard is dead
Memory stick is dead
130W adapter not recoginsed
Audio dosent work.

I love my M170. Just ebay the gateway, and take the loss on a new or dell outlet M170.

LOL, that was really stupid to try to run at 530/1400 what do you expect? you only have yourself to blame.

i do believe that Dell set those clocks without him knowing as i recall him saying. So the only thing he would be at fault for would be checking the clocks before running anything demanding... but i'll let him defend himself.

You would have to manually edit the BIOS to set those clocks. I highly doubt that Dell did this.

Well they did, I left it to ship at 475/1200, safe, still could play CS:S without crashing, and well, it came back, and on the Fixed list was Motherboard, Audio, and Graphics Card. It ran hot, and kept crashing 5 minutes into CS:S. Installed Coolbits, and sure enough, there it was 530/1400. Wtf were they thinking.

If you do get a Dell XPS series, I will suggest buying a PCMIA Sound Autigy, cause it all started with the audio going bye bye. I mean I do love it, can run F.E.A.R pretty much maxed out with no overclock (Put it back to stock), chugs out 50 FPS maxed on CS:S, and can do anything you ask it to do, just don't trust Dell with it, and make sure you get an extended warantee.

This will not work, period. Sorry for your loss. Sell your Gateway on eBay and get a Dell... it's the least you could do for invading our section of forum! =)
