Sony T250/L - 3/4ths of a year later [new pics!]

Firstly, my last review for the T was a little too early. I only had it for ~1.5 weeks. It has been over 8 months now, and the last pictures were poopy and dark anyway. This will also show the wear and tear that the T goes through after..."normal" use and abuse, sooo...here we go! I hope this is ok...
P.S. ...Click on the pic for a much larger/detailed version, obviously. But yeah.

a) b) c)

a)This is 90% the size of the regular keyboard. I've typed 8 papers on this thing, and have experienced no problems. I make no more typos on this keyboard than on any other keyboard, and ...well, this goes without saying, but I actually make less typos on here.

b)I think this is common among...practically all laptops, but hey, I did say I'd show wear and tear. The spacebar...the..."shine" on there? Yeah, there's an oval where the right thumb would normally rest on the space bar that is substantially lighter in color than the rest of the keyboard. It's also smoothed out, and...I poke at it a lot. I doubt you can tell, but this also occurs in the lower half of the F key, and the I key. To avoid this? Uhh...get an external keyboard. But for me, that'd defeat the whole "having a tiny little laptop to take everywhere" point.

c)...Yeeeeah. I went through this stage (to be explained later) where I just used the touchpad. 24-7. And I Photoshop. So uh...I think I just thoroughly wore out a little section of my left touch...button thing. Luckily, the touchpad itself is still in pristeen condition. On my last Sony, it was actually coming apart!

First and second, standard frontal and overhead pictures, but the third...
This is a little scary, and I'd just like to say that this might be limited to just my Sony T so don't panic just yet. At the top of the keyboard, there are a...ton of super tiny scratches. See, my mom picked up and threw my T in a fit of...joy...and broke the LCD, so I'm thinking it might've scrunched things up....just a tad. They're not really noticeable unless you get like....4-5 inches from it or...have a 5 MP camera. But yeah, the vertical lines under the screen, the "smudge"-like things on the VAIO logo and under the LED lights...all scratches.

The wireless/Bluetooth button...annoying as hell. It's flat against the side, with two little...nubs so you can locate and slide over, but it's tiny and there's resistance. It's not bad, just...yeah, annoying. Oh, and the third picture is the left side of the compy. It only has 2 USB ports, which is poopy. There is also, as with all VAIO comps, a slot for the Memory Stick.

I love the volume control button. Mainly because yes, none of my past VAIOs have had dedicated volume buttons, but also because...yeah, tell me if this has ever happened to you. You walk into class, ready to take notes, and you power up your comp from full shutdown....and you forgot to mute the volume. The startup...boop-boop-boop-iness is so embarassing. You can hit mute like a split-second after you turn the thing on and there won't be a single sound. Sound boost is pretty much useless for me. Oh, and the sound from these speakers...they're decent for just one person sitting directly in front of the computer when turned up...3/4ths of the way, but if you just tilt it 90degrees one way, you won't be able to hear a thing. Which...can be good, I guess.

a) b) c)

a) It's kinda hard to tell, and IRL, it's not really all that noticeable, but the cover of my DVD tray sticks out. A tiny bit, but...just an annoyance/imperfection. I've tried kinda...wedging it back in...gently, but...the gently part defeats the wedging.

b & c) These are the "flimsy" covers for the ports for ethernet and modem. And by quoting the flimsy, I mean...they wiggle and...are connected at two very thin points to the rest of the computer, but...they stay. Trust me, I've accidentally flicked this thing enough that it should've flown off and blinded me by now. But alas.

I think I would have much preferred these buttons in the front like the Dell computers are done, however these are fine. And they look pretty When closed, you can still operate the buttons. You can't play DVDs ...or even open the DVD tray...when the computer isn't turned on, but I do use these very often. I reprogrammed the DVD button to open WMP though, cause the default program (WinDVD 5 - The Castrated Edition) is poo. Oh, and the third picture is the top left side of the computer. Lots of lights. You run it on batteries and turn on wireless/BT and the thing goes ker-azy.

Just some size comparisons. I have smallish piano hands (oxymoron? Well, longish fingers for a small hand), and am 5'5.5". So just imagine someone of blandly average height. Yeah. The DVD tray is a standard DVD tray size, and it takes up like 90% of the length of the computer. That should be a slightly better comparison?

This is my most loyal SleeveCase from SFBags.com. I bought it when I first got my computer, and I still absolutely love it. It's pricier than most, but...hey, if it's good, right? The second pic shows a size comparison. The T fits perfectly inside, and there's a pocket in the back enough for a mousepad. The third is my ultra-sexy new Mini Metro bag from Chrome bags. I had the Sumdex Vertical Flap Messenger from Ebags.com, and used that for a few months, but the strap was cutting into my shoulder. The Chrome bag is soooo comfy. I can't say much on it yet, since I've only had it for about a week. But it was a lot smaller than I expected, given the picture that they gave. It looks -huge- in the picture, and...well, in person, it -can- hold a ton of stuff (like...computer, mouse - which is the main reason why I used the touchpad and needed a new bag. The Sumdex bag was too small/flat to house a mouse + dock so I went around for months just not using a mouse; and 3 textbooks. It's a little pricier than the Sumdex ($90 instead of $27), but I'm -loving- it so far.

Few last pictures. This is the MX1000 by Logitech. It's super comfortable and it lasts for lifetimes. The table is a Tablemate2( ), and it can fold up to fit inside a suitcase easily so I take it everywhere with me. I like my ensemble. It's very simple.

Some questions,and thanks :)

Hi,

Thanks for the in-depth review. Just great coverage on this notebook. Just a few questions.

What version of Photoshop have you been using on this notebook. How well does it run?

Has the battery life stayed about the same, or is the battery life slowly dropping?

Any problems with the screen?

Any other thoughts about someone wanting to do graphics work on this machine?

Thanks for any kind of reply on this. I'm really keen on battery life, a good display, and a take-it-anywhere kind of notebook.

I recently bought a T250 off of ebay and am extremely pleased with it. I am shocked at how usable this computer is. The keyboard is absolutely no problem after about a week, and I don't make any more mistakes on this little sucker than I do with a regular one. And for some reason I would rate this as one of the best keyboareds that I have ever used on any laptop. Display Error's review is right on, and I second it in every possible way. This laptop is just about the most perfect laptop that I have ever used, of any size. I am so utterly pleased with it and I could see myself continuing to use this baby for a long time. The newest Sony ultraportable seems to be a little less ergonomically friendly regarding the keyboard, but it's still pretty good.
