nVidia drivers Vs. ASUS drivers

Hey guys (and gals)

I have an L5000D laptop. Its got an nForce3 chipset and a 5650 GPU.

I remember reading in the ASUS manual that you should always use drivers that are released by ASUS and not nVidia. I understand that ASUS might tweak the drivers and such but is it a bad thing to use the nVidia drivers instead of the ASUS tweaked ones?

What are the consequences or side-effects?

Thanks in advance for your help.

the difference is (drumroll please)... you have to download a modded .inf file if it isn't put out by Asus. That's it! I've used the Asus drivers and various other Nvidia drivers, and I don't have any instability at all regardless.

Wait, which drivers are you talking about? The graphics card ones or the mobo (nForce 3) drivers?

nForce 3 drivers, I believe that a modded inf is not needed, since it is the same mobo chipset as in desktops, all you need to do is get nVidia forceware drivers or whatever the hell they call it these days.

If you are installing graphics card drivers, then yes, you will need to get a modded inf or the drivers won't install.
