IBM vs SONY VAIO

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

I am thinking about getting a laptop from myself (at work I used dell and HP).
Looked at Vaio FS series and some ibm.
I like the sturdy build of ibm, the metal case, the feel.
Sony looks very nice but all plasticky feel.
display of sony is much better, brighter however.
Usage: traveling, presentations to clients, use of office softwares normally.
Dell is too cheap-looking/feeling to me...

What is your recommendation?

I just bought a dell with a WSXGA+ screen, and my father in law's ~ 2year old widescreen sony with XBRITE blows it out of the water. I am now considering returning the dell to get a sony, or whoever else that can make a screen comparable to XBRITE.

I personally hate Sony for Terrible Keyboard, flimsy port covers & cheap paint job. I bought a Thinkpad T43p and returned it as I had some issues with the notebook. After hours and hours of research on this forum narrowed down the search to Acer Ferrari but the screen bleeding was something I did not want to deal with and so...well...ended up with back with IBM. This thread should give you all that you need to know why people prefer IBM http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=44962. Hope this helps.

I like Sony--I really do, but also be warned that PC Magazine had the following to say about Sony's notebook support:
Quote:
Sony received the lowest numerical scores in our survey for satisfaction with tech support and repairs. Its notebook numbers, 5.5 and 5.6, border on abysmal, though amazingly, the support figure is quite an improvement over 2004's score of 4.8.
Full article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1851304,00.asp This may not be a problem if you buy the notebook through a retail store and they provide service and support.

On a more positive note, PC World did recently rate satisfaction with Sony's tech support as average.
