Shut down

I know this has been addressed before, but I looked, and can't find it. My laptop today started shutting down at random times. When I boot it it shows the Alienware screen and then goes blank, but the laptop is still on....If I shut down manually and boot again, it's fine untill I shut down. Also how do you check which bios you have? and how do you play with the Alien eyes

By any chance did you shut the lid at any of these times. It's possible that you still have it set to go into standby when the lid closes. If it is in standby you can press the power button to bring it back on.

It sounds like maybe your overheating or something though I'm not sure.

It could be that, or you might have accidently hit the function key while playing and actually shut the LCD off (weird, but possible). Since the system is still running when this happens, it definately sounds like something might be amiss in your power settings, so you might want to check that from the start.

If not, then check you video driver settings, as the ATI drivers had a habit of doing stuff like that in their original form (the Omega drivers and current ATI drivers took care of that).

As for your BIOS... hit F2 and Del at the same time at the boot screen. The first page will tell you what version of the BIOS you have.

Cheers!

Looking at your monitor at the bottom of it, slightly to the right there is a plastic thingy sticking out. If you look below that you should see a hole. In that hole is where the switch is. Next time you shutdown your lappy, take a pen and just tap it in there a few times as though you are trying to dislodge something. Hope this helps.
