I am painting mine in AH-64 black.
hifiking... LOL... good luck getting ahold of that paint. Our gov't would probably assassinate you and steal your laptop! =)

AH-64 paint is IR absorbing paint that is kept under lock down on military bases. Same as the black & gunmetal colored stealth paints. Some of the stealth paint was stolen/sold out of NADEP in Jacksonville years back during the string of Clinton base closings. Saw a guy paint his car with it... his car was stolen 2 weeks after he showed it off. LoL

How about getting it all silver chromed plated or gold chromed plated? That would be different.

My 9300 have no need for stealth, so I have an blackish paint for extream heat that looks nearly the same :-)

How about a tux job? Gloss white for the palmrest, and gloss black for the rest of the laptop.

I still vote for your original idea of white.

why use regular paints? get one of those chameleon paints that changes color depending on viewing angle.

go with "silver/blue" for a clean look, or "red/orange" if you want more attention.

Cool laptop color would be a pearl white with a ultra bright light blue tint.
man im a car nut too, now only if i can figure out how to attach a turbo to my computer....and chip it, then how would i dyno my computer

my opinion on chameleon paint jobs for anything other than cars is that it kind looks tacky......and if not done professionally for an even coat of paint the actual effect of taking 2-3 colors and having them fade into each other for a DIY...might not turn out right. Just my opinion...

I think the chameleon paint looks kinda cheesy to begin with, even if it's done right. Maybe that's just me though.

route the exhaust from the cpu to a a small (but better than nothing) side mount radiator (autozone), the route that to a small areo 7 cpu fan encased in a custom turbine and route that ito the intake for the cpu fan... chip it using the 400 mhz p-m mod, then just bring it to my buddys shop (topspeedsales.com) (shameless plug) and put it on the AWD dyno while running 3dmark and watching your temperatures!

i think it would look cool with the white areas matched up to the dell logo.

The first word out of my mouth was, "Wow!"

The next five were, "There really is no god!"

The final three were, "AAARRRRGH! It burns!"

which reminds me....is there an ac car adapter so we can use are laptops in the car? or would that put strain on the car battery when driving? just another pointless question....dont mean to hijak thread.
there are a couple of threads that made me change my mind about doing it due to the dirty signal inherent to car power. But there are power inverters for liek 60 bucks that should be decent enough to power your laptop. unless your alternator is going out or something there should be no negative effects or noticeable difference to you from the power drawn.

ther is one from duracell(get it from dell.com). it is pretty expensive though.

a tux job would be pretty cool, especially for this laptop design. however, maybe too much?

another thing i was not able to get a good answer to was how do you paint the touchpad?

A tux job would be perfect if you were running Linux!

How about a white palmrest and the rest in a nice royal blue? I kind of like the white palmrest idea.

I don't know if there's a way to paint the touchpad without affecting it.

Doc wins!!! White it IS!!! Half Way done, I'm now drawing up a cool logo to put on the top of the Casing a simple yet cool logo. But I'm patining it white, and I decided to do it myself after I learned how easy it was and how great it can look when it's finished.

I sandpaper'ed all the sides and got a good finish, then applied primer Paint, and then a Gloss White Coat. I also Taped everything over not to ruini the touchpad and lights here and there. I think It'll Be Really Nice when I'm done. Oh and I got my new LCD, I'm lovin It. so far...
