PCMCIA slot problems

My PCMCIA card slot appears to be screwed up like something let loose inside when I was putting the card in . . . My question is - are these pc card connections soldered onto the motherboard or are they surface connections and just pressed against the surface of the board? I'm wondering if I should bother looking inside or not to figure it out as I can't afford to send my laptop off . . . . if there not soldered I could probably reposition things back to normal but if something has let loose like a faulty solder joint then there's not much I can do . . .

I believe the socket for the PCMCIA card is soldered in, but you should be able to use a good strong penlight to look in there. If you can, get a flexible viewer, often auto mechanics or electronics shops will have these. Or you may find a store near you that you can go down there and "test" it out.

I've had a lot of PCMCIA slots and I've used them a lot, virtually every day, often several times a day. I've never had anything break loose. It could be something else is rattling around in there. Then again, there's a first time for everything.
