Gateway MX7515 or 8510GZ

Hi guys,

Boxing Day is almost here in Canada, so finally will buy my first laptop. Now I am not a hardcore gamer, mostly play games like NHL, FIFA, Age of Empires III, Need for Speed, etc. So I would like a decent gaming machine but don't need an XPS but need better than an integrated card. Anyway, I have narrowed it down to either:

Gateway MX7515:
Athlon 64 4000+
1 GB RAM
X600 64 mb
15 inch screen

And 8510GZ:
Pentium M 740 1.73 GHz
512 MB RAM
X700 64 mb shared
17 inch screen

Now the 8510 is $55 cheaper

I previous had the compaq R4225CA with had the Athlon 64 3500+ and I couldn't get the CPU to run faster than 997 Mhz even when plugged into outlet and when I played games, the frame rate was ridiculously fast, and it just went too fast to be able to see what was happening. Because of that, I was kind of turned off the 64 bit processors and returned the laptop 2 days later. Not sure if that's happened to anyone else, but was just wondering:

Between the mx7515 and 8510GZ which one do you think is a better buy and why?

Thanks for any help.

u have to set your ac power to HOME DESKTOP, then your amd laptop would run at full speed.

i currently have the 8510gz. No complaints so far runs HL2, NFS: Most wanted, BF2 fine. At lower setting obviously but still runs them very well. I absolutely love having the BIG 17" screen. Processing wise, i use Photoshop cs2 for very large photo editing, and it does very well I'd go with the 8510gz, I have the exact setup you listed for that machine.

Here's a thread comparing the two on the other site.
