Muting laptop speakers on Inspirion 8600

When I'm using the digital audio output (S-video adapter with digital sound and video output), I want to mute the speakers on the laptop.
Does anyone know how to do this?
All the tings I've tryed, have muted the digital output as well.

It's irretating having the sound from the laptop speakers in the background all the time.

Found an easy solution.

Got an adapter for mini-jack to 3,5mm jack, and put it in the headphone outlet, this mutes the speaker output.

But I would be happy if someone have a solution on how to solve this with settings.

I believe there is an option in the sound settings to disable the PC speakers. Go into Volume Control (on the task tray), go Options -> Advanced Controls (if not already ticked), then click Advanced below the first volume slider. There should be an option to turn off the PC speakers.
