Sager 5720 & A/C Power

Well Santa brought me a new laptop to replace my obsolete IBM Thinkpad. I was curious because my IBM has very bad batteries, I would often run it off A/C w/o the battery installed.

On modern laptops does leaving a laptop on A/C power with a fully charged battery for 5-6 hours cause any harm? Can it be run w/o the battery installed or is that a bad idea?

No, you'll be just fine leaving the battery in the notebook if it is full. If you are always going to have the notebook plugged in and are never going to use the battery, then you are best off:

-Run the battery down to 40% charge

-Take it out of the notebook, put it in a plastic bag

-Stick it in the fridge. Be sure to warm it to warm temperature before you stick it back in the notebook

It may sound weird, but it works.

I will primarily be using the laptop at University and at home on desk. Usually when at home I am using the A/C adapter. Batteries will get used, but system will be plugged to wall often also.

How long is too long to leave a laptop battery full charged w/o using it?

If you are going to leave it plugged in for more than, say, 1.5-2 weeks, then you might consider taking it out and following the above steps.

I kinda have the same problem as noah5720:
I have my 5720 always on A/C. So - like with my last notebook - I take out the battery to keep it from useless chargin/rechargin.
BUT: the 5720 needs the battery for physical stability!!!

So far I haven't found any satifying workarounds to that problem.
So 2 questions:
1) Does everybody here recommend to take the battery out while being connected to A/C 99% of the time?
2) How do I make my 5720 stable even if the battery with its "foot" is missing?

best

I have even a bigger problem with trying to remove the battery fromt he 5720. Is it just me, or is anyone else having a problem with the power cord falling out of the laptop? The lightest pull or nudge on the cable and it falls out putting the laptop on battery.

Actually, you there is a fix for your stability problem.

If your notebook is stationary all the time, I recommend purchasing a cooling pad. I have a Targus ChillMat, which is not the best (made of plastic), but works. The ones by Vantec are excellent - aluminum is great at dispersing heat. Your notebook will run signifigantly cooler.

The cooling pad has little rubber nubs on it, so those support the notebook.

Thanks for the cooling pad hint!
I took a look at pictures but I am sceptical. Even a pad expects the laptop to be even and thus it will not compensate for "gaping hole".
Best thing would be a battery dummy. But I doubt it exists.

If you take your battery out try a couple of these on the bottom.....I am getting them for enhanced ventilation.

My 5720 is basically a portable desktop, always leeching on AC power, never on battery. I dont care about the battery time i get because i never intend to use it away from the powerbrick ... will i lose alot of battery power if i do this?

Also, my AC connector sticks pretty solid into the motherboard. I can see how it would fall out since its one of those right-angle connectors, that can put a rotational force depending on how the cord is oriented.
