IBM R52 vs Dell 710m

Thread Starter
in the past i posted a thread in which i was asking for information for purchasing a 710m. All of your comments made me be sure that the 710m was the best option for a low price, portable, college use, fast laptop, so i decided to pull the trigger on that one. Then i got into so many problems with Dell! They tried to run my credit card like 4 times and never went thru! i was tired of dealing with e-mail confirmations and hours of waiting by the phone in order to get this straight, so i went out to see if i could find a 710m with a retailer and found nothing. But what i found was a Lenovo r52, almost same specs for like $200 which i think is not too much given the fact that the feeling with IBM, no matter what, you cant go wrong. The only difference in specs between them is that IBM's ram is 256 and dell's is 512. And i will get IBM's Lenovo on the same day!Can anybody please post about experiences with one of those or any comparisons!!! It'll be much appreciated!

I've been using the IBM R52 for about 2 weeks now and I love it. It is faster, lighter and has longer battery life then my old Gateway 7422GX. I've been happy with the purchase so far.

Hmm....

will u be bringing ur laptop ard often?? if u r, i think Dell 710m would be a better choice for u.

cos for my T42 which is stated at 2.2kg may seem light, but after u carry it for sometime, it starts to get more tiring...

Hardly an "apples to apples" comparison.

The 710m is an ultraportable with a 12" screen & 4 cell battery which gives it a "starting at" weight of 4.1lbs. While the T42 is a mainstream business laptop with a 14" or 15" screen, at least a 6 cell battery...and even then, its starting at weight is only 4.5 lbs.

If you don't need at least a 14" screen, longer battery life, better wireless connectivity, and a full sized keyboard...then get the 710m.

As for the R52 the original poster bought...I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. Many of my coworker use them and like them alot. I'm lucky enough to have recently gotten a T42p...so I'm a very happy camper now

710 is a 12" ultra-portable, while the R52 will be a thicker & heavier laptop and won't have the battery life of a 710. On the plus side, you get robust build, amazing ThinkVantage tools, fabulous keyboard, addictive trackpoint and excellent support.

You'll have to make the call on this one.
