Disk image / mirror?

A few people have mentioned performing a "disk image" or "mirror" of their hard drive before reformatting. Ideally you would reformat and then load this disk image into place so that you lose no data.

Any step by step instructions on how to do so? This won't help me, because I have already reformatted (and am so happy I did). This will help the users on this board who wish to do the same.

Drew,

I have Norton System Works Professional. It gives you a myriad of utilities one of which is called Norton Ghost 2003. This allows you to make an image that does exactly what you've stated above.

A Ghost Image, or "mirror", would defeat the whole purpose of formatting in the first place. You clean it and prep for a virgin system, but you throw in the same image which includes all the trash from before. Best way is to find all your work files, bookmarks, and config files and make a backup. Format and clean, do the partitions, then clean virgin install of OS. (Dual boot) Then restore your files back where they belong.

That wholely depends on why one is reformatting Booga. Some people like to reformat at given intervals purely to season the drive, not the OS.

Your points are well receieved though as they do make sense if you are trying to "clean" up the OS.
