Toshiba Satellite P20 Benchmark

So I got myself this beutifull 17inch monster.. However, when I run 3dmark2003 on it I'm getting a really ****ty score.. (less then 1000). Now I know it's a laptop.. but come on.. I've got 512 ram, a 3.2ghz processor, and the 5200fx card is the same chipset as I ran on my desktop. Any ideas what could be causing this nasty score? Any ways of tweaking xp out so that I could get every juice out of the laptop?

where did you get 3dmark2003? I have a P25-S607 and would like to test it. What is considered a GREAT score?

I d/l it from one of the mirrors off the main site.. (do a search for futuremark on google) I do have to warn you though that the d/l takes forever..

I'm not sure what a good score is for a laptop.. but I was expecting at least 2000-3000 and not 968..

I own a P25-S607 with the nvidia 5200 and was originally confused about the 3D performance. I overclocked the gpu with rivatuner and still had a disappointing 3DMark2003f score of 1231. However, the actual performance in game play was excellent. So, I did some research and found 3DMark2003 is really only a measurment of performance for future DirectX 9 games that don't even exist yet. It also seems to be pro-ATI, as the ATi cards step down to only run in 16-bit mode for most of the tests, while nvidia cards are forced to run in 32-bit mode.

I ran 3DMark2001 SE and got a score of 8863, which is more in line with the actual results I get with games like Call of Duty, Conflict: Desert Storm II, and Neverwinter Nights. I have yet to find a game that has any problems with fps, even with the highest detail settings.

There is a good article about it here:

hmm.. thanx... It turns out that the memory I had is only 133mhz. (not 266 like it's supposed to be) so it could be that the choppiness of some games like HALO could be due to that rather then video card performance.. I guess I'll see in a few months when I'll have the time to get it fixed..

Are you sure you have 133MHz ram? All of the S607s come stock with 266MHz. Take a look at your memory with cpuz. It should say 133MHz is the base fequency with a DRAM multiplier of 2. Something like "FSB/DRAM = 3:2."

You may want to try installing the latest nvidia drivers. They released a new update on 12/9 with some performance tweaks for Halo.

Also, turn OFF Luster, Anti Alaising, and Anisotropic Filtering and run your video card settings on BEST PERFORMANCE and be sure to have full Video Acceleration turned on. Should be on by default.

I downloaded the Halo demo today and found it is the first game I have found that I can't play with full details. Just turning of Luster makes a huge difference though. It seems fast enough after some adjustments.

I'll try that with the nvidia stuff. As for my memory.. I checked the serial numbers of the chips themselves.. for some reason they threw in some Samsung rams as opposed to the 266 kingston ones..

Hi Soko,
Did you fix this problem? I have just bought a P20 S203 and am having the same problems with a score of 963!!!! A couple of games demos I downloaded didn't run nearly as well as they should. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan

Of course it's running on AC power..

No to be honest I didn't get a chance to fix it yet. (basically I just don't want to go without my laptop for a week or so while the stupid company that's fixing it decides that I'm not full of **** and making it up) But in all honesty. the games I've been playing are running quite well. I've played Americas Army, Ground COntrol 2, Hitman 2, etc. and the resolution and the grafx are just fine..
