New notebook buyer. IBM to Apple to IBM

Being a pilot, I am on the road a lot. I am in search of buying my first laptop. My gf has a Powerbook and loves it. I am trying to decide between, I guess, an Apple and an IBM. My main computer at home is IBM. I am not looking to replace that. My main needs for a laptop are to watch DVDs, surf the web, and play a few games when I have free time.

I am trying to learn more about Apples. From what I hear, they are highly recommended. Any users who own both an Apple and IBM, could you please share your likes/dislikes on both, and why you prefer one over the other?

I am also afraid that if I have an Apple, I won't be able to network with my homepc to transfer files to the notebook. Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

networking isn't the problem...apple would be great for you as long as your games you want to play run on an apple, thats usually the deal breaker...games are often do not run well or at all on macs

The other deal breaker might the lackluster GPU's usually found in IBM's if you want to game.

Take a look at some of the Asus laptops. Asus manufactured (maybe they still do) some of the Apple notebook line and put the same quality into their own laptops.

Aside from gaming, and comparisions from those who own both an IBM/Apple?
