Well, it's official. Intel 2200bg DOES support WPA2

Specs: i6000d w/ Intel 2200bg w/ latest drivers (9.0.3.9) with a Linksys WRT54GS DD-WRT.

For the past couple of days, I've been going bonkers trying to figure out exactly WHY my newly-purchased i6000d wouldn't connect to my wireless network, yet it would connect to my router yet it would connect to a bunch of unsecured networks.

Well, I just switched from WPA2-->WPA and it connects to my wireless network properly.

Is this a known issue or something? I mean, my Dell 1350/1450 worked with WPA2 flawlessly. Is there some fix for this?

Unless you go aftermarket I don't think you'll see Intel wireless supporting WPA2 until Callistoga or whatever is going into the Yonah boxes.

sorry

Argh, I was afraid someone was going to say that.

I mean, should I install my Dell 1450 Wireless? It seems that the 2200 gets much better wireless range than the 1450. Am I imagining things?

According to Intel's site the 2200bg *DOES* support WPA2!

I'm trying MS's SP2 WPA2 fix:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Let's see if it works.

######UPDATE#######

It WORKS! The 2200bg DOES WORK with my Linksys WRT54GS + DD-WRT v23 running WPA2-PSK with a 63 randomized char password.

Anemone, you should be ashamed of yourself for spreading misinformation!!!

All the Dell Truemobile WLAN's 1350/1370, 1450/1470 use the Broadcom chipset which I have found to be the best choice to use when connecting to my WRT54GS since every generation of the WRT54G & WRT54GS have always used a Broadcom radio (WLAN) as well. They are a perfect match for each other!

So to summarize - Windows XP does not have a WPA2 client unless you install the update STi linked above. This is not something you will get thru windows update. I am also using WPA2 successfully with a WRT54G and a 2200BG.

you have to use the intel software to be capable of wpa2 i think. i know i saw it in an option in the new software.

xp does not support wpa2 i believe.

chevy,

As I stated above, XP *does* support WPA2; you just need a patch for it.

Dude, not to be an ass, but do you EVER to bother read my threads?

I mentioned the link right before your post:

Heyyas Alias,

Actually the way he said "think", he did NOT mean he thinks that's what it is. He was clearly implying that Intel does not support WPA2, which as I've shown is false.

I know man make mistakes, but people shouldn't provide comments unless they're certain of their validity.
I almost trashed my Intel 2200bg and went with a card that doesn't give me half the range, based on my experiences.

All is well though.

I was implying "i think", who are you to tell everyone what i meant?

buzz off man.

sorry for the thread corruption, i was trying to help.

IMO your not really helping by yelling at someone that was trying to give some advice, that he/she was NOT implying was ABSOLUTELY correct. but this is your thread, i hope you get the answer you WANT

Ok so you obviously did not read the post 3 above yours, ok that is a little bit annoying when someone posts without even reading the thread, especially when its not very long like this one.

Ok, so after sti sev tells you this:

You ask for a link just proving again that you still did not read the posts after he says that he posted above about the patch earlier I would have thought you would learn your lesson and read his above post.

I can easily see how this can get annoying.

One last Addition I can see both sides of this, when you put at I think at the end of a sentance like that, it sounds like "is what I think", as in Your an ass hole, is what I think.(just using that ass an example).

If instead you put:
I think you have to use the intel software to be capable of wpa2.

I doubt there would have been any confusion, though I think it can be taken two ways.

no worries. i was just giving some advice, no harm meant to anyone.

i do find it funny how much people will jump on the smallest thing though on a forum (:

Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection, (R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection, (R) PRO/Wireless Network Connection, v.10.1.0.0 (TIC 105858), A11

http://support.dell.com/support/down...&deviceid=5896

I just installed them and immediately noticed that the Proset received a facelift. I was having sporadic disconnects on my 700m w/ 2200bg (using the older Dell R107434 drivers) & WRT54G v3 (4.20.7 firmware) set to WPA2. I installed the MS WPA2 hotfix and tried the Windows zero config but it would drop on occasion as well. Hopefully the new drivers rectify the issue.
