are you using a grounded outlet?

i dont know if this is the case with laptops, but with desktops, the board is grounded to the chassis. if you're plugging into an ungrounded outlet (or it's not wired properly) you can get shocked by touching the chassis.

interestingly enough, when i came back home the shocking stopped. it's very confusing, and now i'm wondering if different power outlets may be the cause (i was at my parents' home when this was happening). it may very well be as appak says, grounded vs. non-grounded power outlets cause the chassis to become "live". i'm just very happy now to have my notebook working without...pain...

I have a dell 9300 and used to experience actual electric shocks from it. One of the keys on my keyboard came off and when i replaced the keyboard it must have made contact with something. The shock hurt quite bad actually. I removed my keyboard and reseated it again and the shock was gone.

seriously tho i think this is one more reason to get a z70va. the notebook is so powerful electricity arcs out of it destroying everything in its path. frikin sweet.

Sorry for the big ass kick, but i have the same problem. Does the problem go away after an RMA? I have a M6Va laptop (Z70Va ensemble)....

Yes, do an RMA.
Your notebook is not properly grounded...

Ok, I will call Asus next monday. Thank you for your answer, this is really annoying.

Not to mention, painful?
Yes it is, everytime it happens i have to get my arm away from the laptop. Really annoying when playing games or when you are typing an e-mail.

Chances are that if you are bare footed or scantly dressed you may get a shock
from a notebook or any other electrical device

Better a shocky notebook than a spontaneous combustion Dell

g-force, after many months, i'm of the opinion that its really the outlet that causes the problem. well, that and poor design of the notebook and the power brick. i had this problem, wut 8 months ago now, and since then i've been plugging into many different outlets with my computer. 2 places consistently shocked me, and really, it wasnt anything like carpeted floors, metal tables or what not causing it. i think the outlet just gives out a little more electricity than it should, whether its because its not properly grounded or not i dont know. i would have thought the notebook's power brick would take care of any extraneous electricity, but apparently not. thankfully, where i am now, i can use the computer without problems. try other outlets and see if it continues. go to a friend's house or something and test it out.

if you have to use the notebook in that place, perhaps try getting one of those lightning protected multi plugs and see if it helps at all. hopefully this will help more ppl who are having this problem and think its a problem with their notebook.

Well i called ASUS some time ago and they told me the power supply was faulty. They sent me a new power supply and guess, the shocking is over, even on the same outlet.

Don't know what was wrong with my power supply though...

Good for you. Normally, AC adapter seldom be defective, but it still have a chance to be faulty. Did you use a surge protector to connect the outlet? It can help to protect the electrical device from damage.
Cheers
