14 inch gaming notebook?

Thread Starter
Anyone know of a 14 inch notebook suitable for games such as Battlefield 2? Most seem to be lacking a decent video card. If not a 14 inch maybe a 15.4 inch??
Cheers

lots of options in 15.4 for the 14inchers you are more limited to the toshiba tecra m3 and the sony bx series...but both are not really cheap.

post a price range so we can get a better idea.

when i saw the title of this thread i thought the same thing lol.

To the OP, for some reason the bigger the screen the better the gaming capability. 14'' inch gaming notebooks with Vid cards capable of high end games is like finding a midget to can do an air jordan (slam dunk in Basket ball).

forgot about that actually. but the performance gaming of the x700 in the sony or the 6600go in the toshiba would be well above that of the x600 in the asus... although the point stands that the asus can still game

video cards in 14'' notebook

I'm in the same boat...I want the mobility, but I'd like a machine I can use for gaming at home.

What is the difference between the two video cards below? The Satellite is quite a bit cheaper than the Tecra, but would the Go 6600 make a big difference in gaming performance? Thanks, Brian

Offered with Toshiba Satellite M55: ATI® MOBILITY™ RADEON® X600 SE with 128MB DDR discrete graphics memory

Offered with Toshiba Tecra: NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 6600 TE 128M w/dedicated 128MB SDRAM

The 6600 is much better and will of course get better performance. The 6600 has dedicated memory and the x600 had shared.

ChemBook 2030 very good contender plus stylish looks like mac powerbook.

i tried the toshiba tecra with the 6600te, be warned, it makes a helluva lot of noise when running full blast. Thats why i returned it and went for a sony s5 series instead ;-) Ok, it has a 6400 go but it can still play quake 4 on medium detail at 800x600 fairly happily...

Was it hot though or was it bareable? Can u use it on your lap in while gamin and in tablet mode(folded up) or is it just too hot for lap gaming?

Edit: Question is for Holr, the Tecra owner w/ the go 6600 gfx card

I am also curious about how the s5 series performs. I especially want to know what the sound levels are on normal use and on gaming as well as the heat output for both regular surfing and gaming. What was wrong with the Toshiba tefra? Can you please elaborate? I would really appreciate it.

I don't think there is anything cheap as "14 inch notebook" and "gaming" don't really go together. Heck, "notebook" and "gaming" also aren't that common in the real world.

Anyway, I would recommend the HP dv4000 with the ATI Radeon x700. It's 15.4 inches but it'll do. Comes pretty cheap too at around $1200 for a decently configured system.

ASUS W3v for sure.

The only bad thing about w3v is they start at like $1500+

What about the sony fj-180? They have 128 MB shared video? They are all sold out at the sony store. I was trying to find the same thing, a lightweight laptop that can play BF2.. wanting the best of both worlds!

Compal EFL 30 (Chembook 2030) and the MSI 1022 is the cheapest 14" notebook with a dedicated GPU you can get. they cost almost as much as the Asus Z63a
