The S5 series is a pretty good performer actually. its easily better than my old t43p. The 6400 graphics card is pretty decent, so long as you stick at least a gig of ram in it (i am running with 2 1gb sticks of mushkin and benefit from dual channel memory) as with 1gb ram, the 6400 will automatically reserve 256mb of memory for graphics (well, 256 - 32mb, it has 32 onboard). The sound is fairly decent, you never get great sound with notebooks but it is as good as anything else I've heard. The volume goes up pretty high too. Hadn't had any problem with sound while gaming.

For regular surfing, with the newer BIOS update, it idles at 46 / 47 degrees (with centrino hardware control on). The fan turns off at 46, is on at 47 and above. The fan btw is very quiet at this stage. You wouldnt call this a cold laptop, the right palmrest is a little warm but its not as bad as a sager 4880 ( i think it was) i tried ages ago. It is certainly a "laptop" ;-) On gaming, it goes up pretty high, in the 70's, but I wouldnt recommend gaming with any laptop with the thing on your lap. The fan blows a bit but the extra noise is nothing excessive.

The tecra was an all right machine, but it seemed a bit half arsed. The screen, when it slotted over the keyboard, seemed a little flimsy. Also the touchpad on it was really bad. It didnt feel right at all. Also they had some of the keys in funny positions, like the home end pgup and pgdown (although with the sony s5 series, you need to hold the Fn key and press one of the arrows). I did like the volume wheel though - a dedicated volume controller that was seperate to whatever software you were running. The sony's rely on drivers loaded first before the function keys work.
